Well, in fairness, he didn't win the ACC last year. He just played in the ACC title game

Apparently it was due (primarily) to COVID.

it was 100% due to COVID. Most of their schedule was comprised of teams bound to conference-only schedules, so they really had no choice if they wanted to play football games

Well done George. The Pro over Kelly/Fisher is dead on. It is/was the biggest knock on each coach by far.

There is one big difference between the two though. FSU was Jimbo's first ever HC gig and he took over for an aging, well past his prime legend and had immediate success. Kelly had tremendous early success as a HC and took over at ND for Charlie Weiss, (whose final two seasons look a LOT like Ed Orgeron's) and had a few average seasons before turning ND around.

I will say this, if Kelly loses 9 games his first two years at LSU like Fisher did at A&M, his seat will get real hot real quick.

This is why I come to tSECRant. I learn something every time.

And I did not realize until I saw your post that they played Clemson in the championship game.

Shows how many fricks I give to non-SEC play

Kind of hard for them to win a conference that Clemson has had a stranglehold on for the past few years

Crazy that Jimbo only won it 3 of 8 seasons despite having the most talent of anyone the entire time.

Dabo ran him off.

Jimbo started off 4-1 vs Dabo, 0-5 against Dabo since.

The fear is real as it should be!! no way Jimbo Fisher would have 5 straight 10 win seasons at Notre Dame. Brian Kelly is 10 years younger than Saban, and has just as many wins. Doesn’t have the national titles as of now but He’s a proven winner who came to the only school with three national championships and been to one more with 3 different coaches In the last 20 years

Given this board only cares about national titles, and the obsession with how much coaches make per season.

LSU can officially STFU

Jimbo>kelly

I don't follow the Aggie program that closely. How many National Titles has Jimbo won coaching the Aggie Yell Leaders in what I think has been 4 years?

Seriously? Didn't win the ACC? Tell you what...why don't you click on this link and tell me who the conference themselves says was in first place on the conference at the end of the season.

Jeez, guys. Come on. When LSU sucks, do you guys just completely check out of college football?

Notre Dame played a full-fledged 10 game ACC schedule, unlike their usual five. They weren't merely "allowed" to play in the title game. They were full ACC participants last year. That's why, for example, all listings of the ACC standings for 2020 include Notre Dame, but none for the prior years do.

I've been amazed at how Auburny defensive and infantile their fanbase has been over this hire. Any word, good or bad is met with a barrage of personal insults. That tells me right there what kind of hire it is and how well it's gonna go in BR over then next few years. I've decided I'm really gonna enjoy the show.

Jimbo got his arse handed to him by Orgeron. Wtf do you think an actual competent coach is going to do to him?

They literally lost the ACC title game to Clemson. The conference title game determines the conference champion, not the final standings after the regular season is over. Am I taking crazy pills

Does Georgia still win the SEC title even if Alabama wins this weekend?

Nothing in this thread has anything to do with Alabama or Nick Saban

Reading through the comparison was interesting to say the least. They look so very similar on the stat sheet don't they?

I guess the the best way to differentiate them is where both of their results end up from now.

I am willing to make a ban bet with any aggy or other person as to which coach will either:

Win the SEC West
Win the SEC
Make it to the CFB
Win a national title first

I will place my bet on Kelly.

He still won the regular-season title. That's not nothing. He wasn't merely "allowed" to play in the conference championship, as you said, so maybe that's a yes on the crazy pills.

Hey pal, I'm trying to defend your hire.

I mean - some people seem to be taking this as "LOL Kelly is just Jimbo Fisher he sucks", except hiring Jimbo at Texas A&M was as big a hire of a "name coach" in college football since........Saban to Alabama or Urban to Ohio State - and neither of them went straight from one college job to their next job.

I get laughing at the fact that A&M hasn't done anything nationally yet, but hiring Jimbo at the time (and still, I think) was by far as good a hire as they could have made. And I think LSU with Kelly is probably similar.

It's just funny to see fans of one laugh at the other school hiring a very similar resume while defending their guys resume
