With where the Aggies are headed the rest of the season, how do they not fire Jimbo?

98 million can not outweigh the optics of a complete failure of a coach and his staff.
They have lost this team and will loses last years class in the portal with no class coming in to steady the boat.
I mean you have a massive dumpster fire at the fifty yard line and no hope of putting it out, knowing that it is guaranteed to continuing next year and the next with no end in site.
I do not see them not being forced by the optics of the situation to fire the guy.

They have always been full of shite with how much richer they are than any other big program in the SEC. This is proving it.

They can't fricking afford it.

Oil money has dried up. They broke. Team crashing and they have no money....could not happen to a better group. UT back in the SEC and they will be no different than Mizzou.

even if they DO have the money they claim to, it's hard to swallow ponying up $85M in one bite

AND if they did, they set themselves up for the next coach to expect/demand the same sort of buyout in order to attract reasonable selection of candidates

That is what the AD and higher ups have to weigh. Yes the buyout is crazy expensive, but do you risk losing more money if interest & support in the program wanes (less ticket sales, no support for NIL deals, etc.) and it ends up costing the program even more.

The comments about the entire class leaving are interesting, as the rant makes it seem all but a done deal. I think at this point everybody does expect a transfer or two, but some of the recent interviews with players dont seem to match that narrative. Time will tell what happens but regardless it's not likely that he gets fired this year, no matter what the final record is. He will get another to fix the problem/let the buyout decrease.

one guy decommitted 3 days ago and your suggestion is to do the one thing most likely to get the entire class to decommit.

Honest answer is as Gentleman said, the money can be raised if it has to be, but the boosters will be royally pissed if it comes to that.

As long as there's not a mass exodus of players, Jimbo will very likely get another year to fire and replace poorly performing coordinators and position coaches, and show that he can retool when necessary.

If at the end of the year the players are all headed for the portal, and the incoming class falls apart, then I think there's a good chance he gets canned this year even with the massive buyout. We will find out in a few weeks I guess.

Lol an aggie thinking a couple of sentences is "17,000 words"

Tell me you got a reject education at Texas a&m without telling me you got a reject education at Texas a&m (or was all of that too many words for you?)

They just paid for the #1 recruiting class. I don't think they have the $98m to get rid of him.

When the hell are schools going to stop giving ridiculous buyouts? Coaches have zero risk.

From the fine, fine site TexAgs, here’s a guy who gets what a terrible position TAMU finds itself in.

“Highly unlikely we fire Jimbo due to the buyout, but I don't think it will make the statement you think it will if it occurred. The narrative will NOT be positive. It will be about how incompetent Aggie hiring has been. It will be about how the University and its donors have priorities out of whack. I could see a liot of non sports national media coverage on how A&M is wasting almost $100 milllion paying a coach to NOT coach rather than spending on academics or keeping tuition costs in check. It could spur a national conversion on the excess of college sports. I think it would put Aggie football and the University in a bad light (versus your assumed narrative of how dedicated we are to winning).“
