I don't know anything about Anderson's current life or involvement with Auburn. Would he say something like this if he didn't actually know?

Wouldnt shock me if he doesn't know. I'm sure he is in the necessary circles (to an extent).

Mods on 24/7 have hinted like they know as well

Sark would have to take that. Hopefully he’d stay on through the title game.

Honestly I don’t think WA knows.

I could be totally off base here - but what in the hell is the Steele stuff? It makes absolutely no sense to me. Am I missing something?

I wasn't talking about the implication that he was saying it was good or bad, just wondering if him saying he knew was to be trusted as the coaching search is already done or not.

Gus being fired now hinted that Auburn already has their man, IMO.

ETA He has enough ties to Auburn that he can find out anything he wants from somebody.................if not straight from the horses mouth.

I am right there with you.

Interim - I get it.

HC? He will likely keep the entire staff. Makes no sense at all. Why would we fire Gus just to hire one of his own assistants?

Agreed. Which to me suggests Freeze.

There are quite a few hot names out there right now. It could be Freeze, but I doubt it.

No you’re not missing anything, it makes zero sense. I believe some AU writers are trying to drop hints and some of our fans are saying it’s Steele, which makes no sense with the giant buyout we paid.

All I can think of with Steele is somebody thinks that maybe he can be a good CEO at this point, save some money, be there for a couple of years and not burn the thing down and maybe catch lightning in the bottle and then once all of Gus' money is off the books swing for the fences.

But again, as noted earlier, if that is the idea then why not just keep Malzahn for another year? Unless you fear that he'll win just enough to start the whole cycle over again.

Exactly. If it's Steele, you would keep Gus until after the Bowl game and not risk losing what few players will be signing early.

I'm hearing that certain AU officials we'll be, or may already have, getting in touch with Steve Sarkisian Bama's OC.

Nothing unusual about that. Back before Gus was hired, AU interviewed Kirby when he was Bama's DC. Rumor has it that negotiations broke down due to some details the two parties couldn't agree on.

If they are really considering promoting Steele it means Gus pulled some bullshite behind the scenes and pissed some people off.

It wouldn't be unlike Gus to do this, btw. It would mean that they just want Gus gone - period - and they don't really have the cash to hire someone else.

I was told (before the game last night)that worst case was having Steele coach one season while they found the right fit. That was only if their targets shoot them down. They didn't want it to look like the settled for a coach long term, like LSU or UT did. This was never a money issue and will not be in the future. That is why AU has slow played the Football Only Facility this last year. Gus has been on thin ice since the Bowl Game last year.

That makes the most sense. I guess my question would be, are they going to openly say that is the plan? The only other times I can think of that type of situation happening were in probation type scenarios (Grobe at Baylor as an example).

Would be interesting to see how it played in recruiting, as well.
