Meh.You can easily incorporate the bowls into the playoffs if you go to 16 teams.
Just gotta get rid of the conference championships

Agree. Now we are back to it being a money thing. And I think it can get worked out, just based on the amount of revenue that is brought in by the NCAA basketbll tournament.

Lots a money in it now ($500 million) but I would imaging it probably doubles with 16 teams.

So then the Sugar Bowls against Utah and OU did matter?

I'm not one of those fans who says those games didn't matter just because Alabama lost. As an Alabama fan all Bama games matter to me.

That's because you're not looking at potential millions in the next few months by doing nothing. Easy to say from your position.

I not talking about guys who are getting drafted.Im talking about guys who have stuck around the program and maybe didn't start til their last year or maybe a 2nd teamer his senior year.

They aren't really quitters because many of them never really wanted to play college football. They want to play in the NFL and once that dream is accomplished they may never step on campus again. They aren't fans. They don't think like fans. The goal was the NFL and opting out is the smart thing to do over playing in a meaningless bowl game.

Im of the old school way of thinking that its quitting on their team and I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT.

I mean its not like it has happened to us much. Gus didnt do squat preparing our guys for the NFL. Only one of our guys I remember doing it was Carlton Davis.

But you have a VERY valid point. You may have just helped me see their side.

And as far as expansion, I think its inevitable, but nothing will change until the current contract runs out in the 25-26 season.

"opt outs", better known as quitters should result in revocation of scholarship benefits and the individuals should be billed the full amount.

The other bowls were already meaningless.

Wrong.

Cut the number of bowl games drastically. That will create interest

I would opt out of playing for a worthless team compared to Alabama too

Make better decisions next time on what school to go to. Worthless school (anyone but Alabama) or Alabama.

Auburn in 2017 vs UCF

There are plenty of examples of superior teams not showing up to major bowl games because they didn't get in the playoff or BCS championship game. Bama vs Utah in the 2008 season or UF vs Louisville in the 2012 season, or even Georgia 2 years ago vs Texas.

The long term picture for P5 football will have to include more playoff games. What motivation is there for an elite athlete on a team that didn’t make the playoffs to play in a bowl game? The risk of injury in a meaningless game is too high.

I don't know if it will force a playoff expansion, but something needs to be done. It is getting to the point where these kids are even opting out of the major bowls, which is killing my interest in these bowl games

Maybe the issue is leadership. How many Bama players opted out last year?

One coach has been able to get his players to understand that you don't increase your value by sitting on the couch.

Yeah. Just do something that no conference will ever do in a 100 years.

You guys never seem to understand that there are about 70-80 schools or more that will never sniff the playoffs even if it's 16. Never. But many of those schools do have a chance to get to their conference championship game. 8-4 Virginia was never gonna sniff the playoffs...even with 16...but they played in the ACCCG.
