Who will be head coach of Notre Dame in Week 1 of the 2017-18 regular season? Les Miles +155 Brian Kelly +175 Urban Meyer +2500 Dan Mullen +2600 David Shaw +2700 FIELD -145

I think he would be a great fit at Notre Dame. I don't know where these odds came from but I have no clue how they could have Meyer as the number #3 guy going to Notre Dame. No way in hell he leaves Ohio St. for Notre Dame.

He is an incredible recruiter and that won't change.
I've seen a few posts lately that seem to question whether you really have to be a great recruiter if you're at LSU. Curly Hallman's and Gerry DiNardo's tenures would suggest that you do.

contrary to the belief of many, Les Miles is a very smart guy. he knows how to put together a staff that can recruit and is very adept at most of the things that a head coach is responsible for. in the right situation he would be an effective college coach.

BUT. he will never have the resources he had at LSU, esp the budget for assistants. he signed highly rated recruiting classes but had significant weaknesses in each one. he and his staff were poor in recruiting DL, LB and OL. oh, they signed "adequate talent" at these positionsbut whiffed on many of the stellar recruits. lastly, he chose poor assistants in critical areas and ignored their weaknesses. he did not demand accountablility. lastly, he WAS the OC and just wasn't qualified to be one. that, of course was his undoing.

he may win big at his next stop but it won't be at a top 25 school.

I downvoted the OP just to make it 10-0.

No way. You will not get much agreement on that in BTR right now. You have to be here to realize how much air Miles underperforming teams were sucking out of the program. Even with the loss to Bama last week the fans are still optimistic. Most people here see Orgeron as getting way more out of the players than what Miles was.

I am sure that could change if we shite the bed in Fayetteville this weekend

Les will do great unless he goes to a division where rules are actually enforced.

I honestly doubt it. He's a great person but an average coach. He's old school and is far behind younger, more energetic coaches.

He should have been fired three years ago.

Les won at LSU because of talent. Everyone knew what LSU would do on offense and they would have success because the talent at OL and RB were better than the defense most of the time. If he doesn't recruit talent and tried to play the same way he will have a hard time winning. He needs to change his offense. Les ran the I formation ground and pound because that's what he recruited. If he doesn't have that talent I believe his offense will change based on the talent he has on the offense

If he goes to Notre Dame or Texas, they will be an annual three-loss team.

If he delegates responsibility instead of trying to run the whole team himself yes

So basically you have faith in Les Miles's offensive innovation but not in his recruiting?

Wow

Not without Saban's players and a miracle season where he can back into the playoffs with 2 Ls.

Right he was an avg coach at Ok St and they only got better once he left

He maintained an already established LSU program but with that kind of talent he showed even an avg coach could have success.. that's one reason I'm not as concerned about the next coach because even an avg coach can have success. He proved it.. coach O has even proved him to an extent.

Imagine an actual mastermind x and o HC at LSU with this talent. The sky is the limit.

Another reason I don't want O as HC. Time for LSU to just get an x and o guy. He's the best DL coach IMO but he's not exactly a wizard.. it's more of a crapshoot or risk trying to find the right OC than hiring an above avg coach who can scheme

Getting back to Miles. I think he has a ceiling of 8 to 9 wins wherever

Miles isn't winning at his next stop. His head is filled with garbage.
