. Mullen is 5 times the HC that Mike Leach is.

I doubt it, Mullen designed offenses that worked with what Mississippi High schools produced. Big strong defenses and offenses, I don't thine Leach's girly boy offense will work with that personnel

No way. I like Leach and think it was a good hire but Mullen was State’s Renaissance. What that guy did being at the little brother school in a piss poor talent State was incredible

Most State fans I know don’t expect championships but they do expect respectable, competitive well coached teams. The shite show the dogs put on in their bowl game was a disgrace and that tipped the scales.

If he gets QB’s who can make throws, he will win. He’s as smart as they come. He also needs recruiters around him.

I’m with most of you in saying it’s gonna depend on his QB, but also his receivers and if he can field a decent defense. If he gets a good QB but the defense is complete trash, I don’t see him getting past mid-tier. Without a good QB then it will be pretty bad I’m afraid, defense or not.

Don't know but football season will be a fun time.

Unlikely. Maybe similar though.

Very unlikely...
He is odd, quirky, and doesn't really relate well with most people. The dude is border line, if not genius. His personality will turn off some great recruits/parents.
If he can get beyond that with some incredible assistants/recruiters.. he will have some success. The other problem is he lacks defense most seasons. With Grinch he fielded a great team... without it went south.
It will be fun to watch against Kiffin especially.

Discuss. Would enjoy seeing opinions on this.
In the best of cases, I think it will be very close. 6-8 wins is what I expect, which is comparable to Mullen. Leach can win shootouts without being stellar on defense, but by the same account won't win a number of games every year because of the lack of emphasis on defense. I hope/wish we can get the right DC to offset this as much as possible.
LSU and Bama are likely safe due to their DL combined with strong pass defenses, but anyone else in the west is fair game once he gets it up and running.

Uhh that is silly, keeping the talent at home is always an issue but the talent is there.

No. I think this is a disaster hire
SEC defenses will destroy his offense. This isn't 2005. Most teams in college run some form of spread now and he has mentioned how bad he hates recruiting. If Leach wasn't a quirky, weird coach no one would be talking about him, nor want him.

Will he do better than Mullen? Not likely
Will he do as good as Mullen? Maybe
Will he do slightly worse than Mullen? Most likely
You can't sell Mullens work at State short. Mullen is over all a pretty damn good coach.
Leach is solid though.
That is a tough question that only time can answer honestly.

I base this on what I think was a very shaky hire for Ole Miss in Lane Kiffin whom I think will find a way to blow it and/or leave Ole Miss holding the bag. I think that if given time, Leach will win the state over and have Mississippi State competing at as high of a level as they’ve seen in quite some time. I wouldn’t think it wise to expect them to compete for the West anytime soon, but I think they will begin to make moves that will make them a team to be reckoned with.

Doesn't compute.

Mullen had Mississippi State #1 in the first ever CFP rankings and held the spot for three weeks. Leach has never had a #1 team. He had a #2 team at TTU in 2008 for a short time. But, Leach can get State to a more consistent level of relevance, and hopefully build a culture of competing for opportunities to get to Atlanta.

I wish better for them than this poor recruiter as a HC.
I was told Mullen couldn't recruit while he was there
