Bama wandered in the wilderness a bit after Bryant and then again after stallings.

Biggest differences were that things were

- Alabama was already on the decline when Bryant left. His teams weren't nearly as talented and the records showed it. Perkins had 2 rough years as he built the base back but after that Alabama went 45-15-1 from 1985-1989 in his last year/Curry years. We went 115-31-2 from 1986-1996.

- Stallings left NCAA probation behind and we hired as utterly awful a hire as could possibly be made, then got in MORE NCAA trouble.

On the flip side, look at what a lesser Saban left behind at LSU for Les Miles.

It's not crazy to suggest we have issues, but it would take some seriously bad decisions by our athletic department/NCAA issues to send us back down that road IMHO.

That’s true. LSU will never win the conference again because they can’t best UF, Bama or Tamu

Wait... wait.... are you putting 2 and 2 together yet? Have you gotten that your argument that “we almost beat them” is just as irrelevant as my argument about you losing to teams.

The game is fricking year to year. What you did last year is meaningless to what you will do this year. You could have beaten Bama 100 to 0 last year, but that does t guarantee you will beat them this year or next or the year after.

Do I need to spell this out for you anymore?

It's funny, I see this same shite from LSU fans on TR and their recruiting board ALL.THE.TIME.

The fact they beat UGA has clouded them into thinking that UGA is on par with vanderbilt and that there's no way LSU isn't better than UGA in any phase of football. Of course never bring up troy because that's irrelevant.

Thats complete BS. AU only had a couple of players out and one of the players couldn't play well in the SECCG is because Gus played him while he was hurt which aggravated his injury.

UGA beat AU at the SECCG because UGA was and is the better team.

I'm fully aware of Georgia fans' propensity for violence.

I'll never forget the night of November 2nd, 2002. Georgia shite the bed versus Florida. I was living in Northern Atlanta at the time, but I had plans to meet some friends over in Birmingham the next day. I was listening to the Georgia-Florida game on the radio, and near the end of the game I pulled over to get gas at Quiktrip.

Greene got sacked on 4th down with less than 10-15 seconds to go, and yet another promising season for UGA was ruined. But that's not why I remember that night -- I remember that night because I watched an angry Georgia fan try to strangle his wife in the Quiktrip parking lot, and then begin to throw haymakers at his pre-teen sons who were trying to protect their mother.

I intervened in the situation along with several other customers, and thankfully the police were less than five minutes away.

And, yes, I know that the man was a Georgia fan and that he was upset about the game. He was decked out in Georgia gear as were his sons. I first noticed the situation because he was screaming "bitch, you wouldn't shut up so I could hear the end" or something similar at his wife -- it's been almost 17 years, so I may not have the quote exactly right.

I hope I haven't made you or your Bulldog brethren mad. I don't want any upset Georgia fans commiting any acts of domestic violence because of my thread.

but is also might just revert back to the early 2000s when there were 3-4 really good teams that kind of rotated through things.

I think this is likely.

I think GA immediately benefits when Saban retires, but LSU, AU and A&M do as well. It is not that Alabama will not be in the mix or favored a lot, but it may be more of jump ball for the SEC.

Honestly, I am one of those fans who thinks Saban was a net positive for the SEC, even though Alabama has dominated. It made fans look at their coaches and set higher expectations, at least from my perspective.

And compared to what's going on currently bama only winning 10 games would be delightful

Yeah, the point was more that rock bottom at Bama is a higher plateau than most everywhere else because they still pull in a boatload of talent regardless of who the coach is.

The years between Bear's retirement/death and the hiring of Saban were the golden age of the post-integration SEC for non-Bama fans.

Our only hope is that when Saban retires/passes peacefully on to his maker that Bama somehow screws up the Dabo hire and we have another 25 years of bungling until they finally find the next Bear/Saban.

I think UGA is in a very good position with Kirby so long as they remain patient and let him do his thing.

It should read:
was the better team on that day.

Honestly, that is all we can say most of the time, but that is especially clear in a year when there is a do-over.

It's one of the possibilities - it is also possible that Georgia takes a step and kind of becomes the "it" program. I don't think there is another program in the SEC that really has the juice to do that (kind of be the Top 3 every year type team). Georgia COULD. People will say A&M, but I'm just not sold that Jimbo has that level of elite consistency in him in the SEC.

But, the more likely scenario is we go back to having 4-5 really good teams that depending on the year win the league and have a shot at a title, with some more prevalent in that than others.

Dude. the fact the LSU has not scored on Alabama in the last 2 out of 3 years tells us something.

Let's get this straight....

You think Georgia has no chance. No matter that we have played Alabama close. No matter that we have made the playoffs. no matter that we won the Rose Bowl. None of that means anything. Georgia has no chance.

HOWEVER, LSU DOES have a chance. No matter that they get trucked by Alabama every year. No matter they haven't made the SECCG in 8 years. No matter that they can't finish higher than 3rd in their own division. But certainly...LSU has a great chance!

Agreed. The rising tide of competition has lifted all boats. And LSU got one natty out of him and set the stage for another natty so I have no complaints other than why oh why did it have to be Bama? Gator fans are lucky. There was no way in hell Spurrier was going to take the UGA or Tennessee job.

absolutely none of this happened. Aside from maybe you being at a gas station, probably while on shift

and there's the common thread. Funny that most bama, au, uf, etc fans that just despise the shite out of UGA just so happen to live in our fair state.
