Will defenses ever catch up?

I enjoy having a powerful offense with the ability to score if needed but I miss the days of an elite defense that puts up a brick wall and a rushing attack that can eat clock. Is CFB forever cursed to have a bunch of basketball scores or will defenses eventually adapt to shut down these point a minute offenses?

No it's going to go back to power football in a semblance soon I think

Some guy will figure something out, and shift the game.

Clemson has shifted back to this in some capacity.

I mean...it comes down to coaching. Playing man coverage is the death blow to a D

It is cyclical. Before too long someone will realize that with defenses getting smaller and quicker, a strong power rushing attack will run right over them. We won't go back to the Power I, probably, but the game will evolve.

I don’t think so. When everyone is a weapon in the pass game and QBs are a threat in the run game defenses can’t simply cover everyone. Which is why you see teams with far less talent finding themselves much more competitive with elite programs.

Defenses cant catch up.
How many defenses have 3 nfl corners to cover teams with 3 nfl receivers?
Uga failed in personnel in my opinion because we played Stevenson instead of a true corner at nickel. DJ Daniel's is a solid college CB. Fast and has good college size. He absolutely would have been a better choice than Stevenson. That said, the receivers/jones made plays over Stokes and Campbell (I knew that they would get some... I just hoped campbell would have looked more mature and ready on a consistent basis). Daniel isnt better than campbell. So the outcome may not have been vastly different.
The point... the nickel defender needs to be an elite corner. And how many teams have 3 ready (our 3rd elite corner has an ACL tear)

Never understood the appeal of watching teams run the ball up the middle countless times a game. Much prefer seeing elite athletes do their thing in open space.
And I doubt D's will keep good spread-O's from scoring 30 to 40-plus any time soon.

Football still comes down to whomever has the best lines. Mac Jones was a 3* QB. Waddle and that OL is the difference. A stacked DL will still neutralize an O.

Not as long as the call PI and Defensive Holding like they are doing now. The NFL wanted more Offense, so they just change the rules giving the advantage to the Offense. As long as the public likes Basketball on turf, it will not change.

Rules have to change in order for that to happen. Particularly the linemen down field and the hand fighting/PI calls.

Rating stars don't define Jones. That rating was a brain-fart by the services.
Sorta like 3-star CEH... first RB off the board in the 2020 NFL draft.

I think being more strict on calling offensive holding would help. Let teams pressure the QB with the front 4.

There were 5 SEC games yesterday. Of the 10 teams, 4 of them went over 400 yards... Bama had over 500 yards and won. Ole Miss, Auburn, and Georgia had over 400 yards and lost. The rest of the teams had less than 400 yards.
The SEC was last place of all conferences in yards allowed and pts allowed. Yesterday, the average for yards was 371.5. The average for points was 25.4.
The offenses were way ahead coming out of fall practice. I expect to see defenses continue to improve.

Jones has also had 3 years at Alabama behind the scene's to improve. He wouldn't have been ready as a tf or soph.

You should also expect to see pass timing and QB/receiver chemistry improve.

Doesn't change the fact that 3-stars was a brain fart by the rating services.
Last year, Joe Burrow was the service's face plant 3-star rating. LOL

Rule changes would allow defenses to catch up much more quickly. The last 25+ years worth of rule changes have made it tougher for defenders.

Star ratings are supposed to coincide more with how ready a player is to make an immediate impact in college. So Mac and CEH being 3 star guys who developed into great players over time isn't really a "miss"
