The consensus on the rant is Bama will sink to the bottom and never be a threat again.
Historical fact is, unless Alabama goes on probation or hires another Ears Whitworth, Bama will be chasing titles like always.

Depends who they hire.

The likely hood any new coach keeps up with Saban's pace is almost 0.

No reason they can't make a strong hire and continue to be very very good.

You say "back to mediocrity" as if it were the norm for Alabama pre-Saban.

You probably really believe that's the general consensus. Bless your heart.

I feel like everyone on this board is incapable of seeing that Alabama from 1997-2006 is not the norm. Neither is 2007 to present but some are going to be sorely surprised when Alabama doesn’t fall off some imaginary cliff you seem to think exists behind Saban’s reign.

I hate Alabama, but I wouldn't consider that program having ever been mediocre more than maybe a couple of seasons.

Mediocre by their standards?

Yes

Medicore by our standards?

No

They certainly won't be winning titles at the present pace. It's amazing what Saban has accomplished considering the fact that so many other SEC schools have stepped up thier attempts to catch them.

The bottom line is Coach Saban is/was a once in a generation talent. And yes, IMO he has obliterated Bryant.

Yeah, that was a bad streak. It was 13 years between nat'l champ seasons in those dark days.

It will fall to Byrne to keep it going
The next coach won't lack for talent
Managing the unrealistic expectations will be the tougher job and a two loss season will be grounds for termination

What will Saban do next? Tv gig
I'm sure Bama will use his input to hire the next one - of course, he recommended Houston Nutt to LSU

you mean the mediocrity like the 10 years from 1997 to 2006, the worst in my lifetime (still three 10 win seasons and a conference title)

or like the most national titles however you measure it, and the most victories from 1897 to this day? this even excludes the 30 victories the ncaa decided UA should vacate or forfeit

Alabama has always won. Even Dumbose won an SEC title. Of course, Fulmer turned them in for cheating not long after that which may have had something to do with it.

Will the next coach win 7 NC's in a 10 year period? Zero chance of that. On the other hand, will they be 7-5 every year? Hell no. They will go back to 9-3, 10-2 and compete for the SEC every year as well as a NC every few years.
