Will a lack of divisions cause you to pull for or against other SEC teams differently?

First of all, as a Bama fan, I can't ever pull for Auburn and I know they feel the same about us. But other teams in the old West are different. I don't hate LSU or TAM and I've always kind of liked Ole Miss, especially with Kiffen. But with the old system you basically had to pull against everyone in your division because their losses helped your team. For example, if Ole Miss played Tennessee, Georgia, Missouri, etc. I felt obligated to pull for the other team (including Tennessee which would really hurt) even though I preferred Ole Miss. None of that really matters now other than hoping your biggest competition loses, but week in and week out I won't feel compelled to automatically pull against anyone from the west.

I know that who you pull for or against doesn't affect anything but it will feel differently this year. None of this is important, just killing time until practice starts in 11 days.

Any thoughts Rant?

It's a good question and well put.

I dunno though, probably not.

I'm gonna pull against Tex no matter what.

I always enjoyed our games against Arky. I like to see them do well.

I hate bama and georgia the most. I don't care about the other teams in the conference.

I was looking for actual reasons for actual fans. I have always had a soft spot for Miss St but am not a fan. I am happy for their fans when they win and let them be when they lose. The lack of divisions doesn’t effect that.

Ole Miss with or without Kiffin isn’t worth the bother. LSU is a bunch of pretentious pricks with or without divisions. Mizzou is a big 12 team DBA an SEC team with or without divisions. Kentucky/Vandy/UofSC are still bottom feeders with or without divisions. Auburn has a shot at reigniting that rivalry without divisions so that’s a plus. Bama is still the number 1 enemy, respected enemy but still number 1. UGA is just LSU putting on airs without the provenance. Florida is still Tennessee’s kryptonite. Texas aspires to be in the discussion but are Tennessee alters as a fanbase brought to life. Oklahoma with or without divisions could have a decent fanbase and program. And I look at TAMU as a well funded Miss St.

None of that is predicted on divisions.

I don’t care what other teams win or lose

Just win the games in front of us. There will still be a handful of teams I’ll be happier to beat than others if I had to choose some guaranteed L’s but for the most part the change doesn’t make any difference to me

There’s typically two SEC teams I will never “pull for” and that’s Auburn and Tenner. Sometimes I’ll root against a team if them losing that game specifically benefits Bama going to SEC CG/playoff

Aside from that, I regularly pull for SEC teams on Bama’s schedule since the more they win, the better it looks for resume when Bama beats them.

In the new layout, that will probably stay the same for me.

I’m starting to have some feelings for the tide
I don’t want them to become some 8-4 team year in year out
I might cry

It would be rare.

There might have been a couple of times in those years Mizzou won the East where I was hoping they'd lose so UGA could get in the SECCG. The reality is I don't have any real hatred toward Mizzou so I likely would have been cheering for them in any other scenario.

While I generally would be rooting for Auburn to lose most games, there might also have been times I was cheering for a team like LSU or Bama playing someone else in order to keep Auburn out of the SECCG in the past. That will be less frequent.

It could, depending on who we need to lose to help us. Good point I hadn't considered, but might even mean pulling for Alabama against Auburn, for example, or Florida over Georgia.

This is how I felt when I lived in Alabama. But after moving out of the south and literally living in a college town (Eugene Oregon) for a decade my allegiances started to shift. The hate I had for Bama and UGA was eventually replaced by support for:

Auburn first and foremost
State second
Conference third

I am now back in the south and I feel generally the same as long as we aren’t being played I want the conference to win.

I never cared about divisions anyway, as my second favorite team growing up was LSU. LSU is where my grandfather who raised me was in the marching band in the 1930s. They have been replaced by Oregon now as I lived there over a decade but LSU is still my 3rd favorite team.

When I first started watching LSU in 2012 I didn't understand the hate for all the SEC teams.

12 years later nothing makes me happier than when everyone loses. frick em all.

Good question. I still can't see it changing tho. Conference record still exists. So the standings should still be the same.

That’s no from me, dawg. It’s HailState vs the world. If any other SEC school was playing Germany, I would cheer for my Möhne and Ruhr brethren while knocking down a few Warsteiners, just as I am right now.

Easy answer is it’ll definitely effect it. With divisions you had solid battle lines, if you’re 2nd place in the east but 4th overall in the conference you only need one team to lose. When you are fourth in a division less conference you need three teams to lose. It’ll make for lots of strange bedfellows you might need miss st to beat lsu one week then need lsu to beat Florida the next

I think it's going to be about the same as far as what helps teams. You'll still want the better teams to lose.

In general, everyone else in the SEC can suck my balls. Except Arkansas, even though their fans are wrong trying to claim 64. They get a free pass until they do something that makes me hate them.
