Why would Lanning want to follow a legend?

1. Oregon already heading to BIG10
2. Far less pressure at Oregon
3. More money and resources at Oregon as long as Phil Knight is willing to keep writing checks
4. History shows coaches who follow a legend usually have less success
5. BIG10 offers easier path to playoff each year as there are only 5-6 programs that seem to have lofty expectations vs 9-10 in the SEC.
I’m trying to wrap my brain around why he’d want that job.

Why would anyone?
Because a real legend wouldn't give a damn about the shadow before them.

Ill feel good if neither Kiffin or Lanning take the job

He wouldn't - signs pointing to Deion

Oregon is a far better job. Step down to Alabama.

I don’t think there is a lot of incentive for him to leave Oregon, but it would be a great hire for Alabama.

My money is on Kiffen, I’d make him turn me down.
As far as Oregon to the Big 10, I think it’s a terrible fit and they will struggle.
PAC 12 was a way easier path to the CFP than the Big 10 without divisions.

Ryan Day is on year 6 of riding Urban Meyer- the next guy will have it easy for at least 3-5 years.
Blue blood factor is tempting for anyone and that's something Oregon will never be able to give him

True. Just ask the legend, Ray Perkins.

You never follow the guy. You follow the guy that follows the guy.

how about a huge guaranteed contract? and a cupboard that's loaded, and all the support and resources anyone could imagine.

I don't know if Lanning would take the Bama job, but this move to the Big 10 is going to be a pain in the arse for the West Coast schools. That's doubly true for Oregon and Washington as they'll be receiving reduced payouts.

Urban isn't Saban though.

Remind me, how many NC's has Oregon ever won?

Let’s just assume everyone is on the table, who does Bama want most?
1. Kirby- he won’t leave his alma matre
2. Sark- lateral move now that Texas is in the SEC. No incentive for him to go to Bama
3. Lanning- he’s got to be the top realistic candidate but I don’t see much incentive for him to go
4. Kiffin- first candidate on the list who would jump at the chance to go
—-
2nd tier candidates if by some chance Kiffin decided to stay in Oxford:
5. Ryans
6. DeBoer
7. Drinkwitz
8. Heupel
9. Fisch

Two different head coaches have taken them to national title games. If Lanning is as good of a coach as them, it shouldn’t be hard for him to get Oregon back to that game.
