Coach Bryant knew we needed black players before we officially accepted them, but was told no. I don't know for sure if it was the governor or the administration (or both) who said no, but there was no doubt that he wanted/needed black players.

Why was OU so far behind Michigan in this? They had a black player in 1890.

Old time Texas fans used to brag about being the last "all white" national champion (that 69 team).

Even as Royal bowed to the pressure and started recruiting black kids his attitude about race was a not so well kept secret and Switzer in the early 70's used it against him to get a leg up on signing the best Texas schoolboy athletes.

It also helped Switzer that he had humble beginnings which enabled him to easily establish rapport with their families.

Plus Switzer was crooked and OU cheated like hell, which helped as well

It doesn't and isn’t.

Unfortunately this thread is.

At least he wasn't a racist and it hurts to admit that about a former Sooner player but the truth is what it is.

College Football history isn’t relevant? It’s a valid topic of discussion that has no relevance on OU being 0-5 in the CFP; two completely different discussions.

If you wish to make a politically charged post demanding answers to pointed, selected questions regarding perceived racism, you need to post on the Poli Board, not the SEC Rant. Trolling is more commonly addressed and properly handled there.

1970: Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Auburn, Georgia, Texas, Alabama

A&M had black players in 1967, playing for Gene Stallings (a Junction Boy).

James Earl Rudder was a legit WWII badass and was uniquely credible and capable enough to lead A&M through the seismic changes there in the 1960’s.

Put him and Gene Stallings in a room saying it’s time for a change, and you won’t get much argument.

Mizzou also had Michael Sam.

Always ahead.

It also helped that Switzer and colleagues at OU invented the “bag man”.

Don't tell me let me guess.

You wipe your arse then bring your fingers to your nose and go "Aah, such a lovely fragrance this morning. Honey, come here, let me try yours!"

Oklahoma is probably the most genocidal state in America if we are being real… Entire state is a Native American burial ground.

A&M’s first African American players were in 1967.

The first one to start a game Hugh McElroy was 1970.

Even if that were true it still doesn’t change the fact that OU invented “bag men” and that was y’all’s advantage. We know your state doesn’t produce enough talent to make a championship roster.
