Alabama's Board of Trustees was against the resumption, saying that an Auburn-Alabama rivalry would lead to an overemphasis of football in Alabama and an unhealthy increase in rumor and rancor between the two schools.

And people love to criticize the Alabama Board of Trustees...

Wish these guys were still around. I'd get them to give me some tips on stocks 'cause they seem to have been great predictors!!

Except for the 5 years from 2002 to 2006, the series has been relatively long streaks of 4 or more since 1971.

It goes back further than that. Tennessee won from 67-70.

Alabama went unbeaten against Tennessee from 61-66.

Tennessee went unbeaten against Alabama from 55-60.

Read a stat somewhere that until 2002, there had not been less than two games won in a row by either Bama or UT in almost 50 years.

Couldnt disagree more.

You're pretty much completly throwing out all history and focusing on the past years.

I'm not saying you're one of these fans, but we picked up a lot of new "fans" in 2008, they have no understanding of past events, just that they get to talk crap to the AU fans in the town.

I'm sorry, but Updyke and Tubs throwing his fingers up, dont overshadow 100+ years of hate. Besides, what would you be more proud of? Beating up the scrawny kid on the block, or someone who is more your size? Compare the two programs historically and get back to me.

I'd like to see a properly done poll on the subject.

A few anecdotes don't seem to mesh with what appears to be quite obvious.

The Iron Bowl is the fiercest rivarly in the entire SEC.

And it isn't even close.

It's 2 totally different types of rivalries so its hard to quantify it that way.

With Auburn, we have to live in the same state with these nimrods every fricking day. So we have 365 days between each meeting that we either get to gloat, or we have to suck it up and deal with them gloating. We are reminded every single day about the Iron Bowl rivalry and what it means.

With Tennessee, its a bit different. We DONT see them every day. We dont have to live with their gloating if they beat us last year and we dont get to gloat to them. There is no reminder every day about the TSIO rivalry and what it means.

But we dont need it. It's a hatred that burns so deep that it never wanes even when its been 365 days since we even saw these hillbilly toothless inbreeders.

We need no reminder of how much we hate that "throw up in a pumpkin" shade of orange, as the black guy in that "I Hate Tennessee" youtube video puts it.

We don't need any reminder of how much we hate that dump Neyland Stadium and its uncomfortable fricking seats.

We need no reminder of how much we hate Fat frickin Phil Fulmer and his shady, underhanded tactics to undercut us in the past.

We need no reminder that we never beat Peyton Manning.

We need no reminder that when we beat that arse, its time to light the cigars.

And we absolutely, unequivocally need no reminder, of how badly we hate, despise, and loathe that abortion of a fight song, Rocky Top.

It festers 365 days a year. And when the TSIO rolls around, its pure, unadulterated hate at its absolute best.

THAT is the difference in the AU and Tenn rivalries.

This thread always brings out the AU faithful trying to tell us who our "real" rival is.

It looks to me like many Bama fans think it is AU. The AU fans have mostly popped in to explain (as if it needed explaining) that Bama fans say AU isn't their rival to piss off AU fans, further stoking the flames of that rivalry. From my point of view, there appears to be a lot of that.

What's the average age of Alabama posters on this board? I'm slightly older, having graduated from Alabama in 2006. Tennessee means more to me from a tradition, atmosphere standpoint. I just love to hate Auburn.

I'm not sure what you are looking for or even talking about. I'm also not sure I said anything about your post other than rebutting your point that you think AU fans are coming in here to tell you "your business," as it were.

Honestly, I don't really give a shite which rivalry means more.

They both mean a lot.

As we are reminded each and every time the SEC tries to have any conversation about scheduling or which teams are in which division.

I get that.

Which rivarly means more isn't as important as the fact that both rivalries are completely non negotiable.

I take that as a given.

And my hope is that Alleva is making it loud and fricking clear in the TV contract negotiations that LSU is as passionate (maybe even more so) about preserving at least one SEC night game in Tiger Stadium every season as you 4 schools are about your precious rivalries.

That's our non-negotiable.

Jack Daniels must flow like a river for at least one conference TS night game each and every year.

The offseason really is too long.

See you November 3.

This is true for many in the younger generation. I am not one of them, though, as I have a lot of family in Tennessee.

ETA: This is the "I Hate Tennessee" version circa 2001. I used to see it posted on rec.sport.football.college as far back as the mid 90s.

Alabama vs. UT is a rivalry...

Alabama vs. Auburn is a feud (watched too much hatfield and mccoys)...

I think most Alabama fans would prefer to beat Auburn over UT..

I just dont see how some of our fans can over look not only the history, but some of the fcked up stuff UT has done in the past.

Good lord, their former HC tried his hardest to "put Alabama out of business"(his words). He didnt even want to beat us on the field, he wanted to END OUR PROGRAM. He went undercover with support from his AD and wore a wire for crying out loud. His goal was the fuggin death penalty. But yet some of our fans took it to heart when Tubs held his fingers up. Ask yourselves what's worse.

It should be a prerequisite for fans who joined post Saban to read "The 3rd Saturday in OCT". Learn why we blaze up stoagies, learn how our rivalry with UT first started. In 1901 the first game between the 2 schools, UT fans rushed the field in protest of the officiating. It resulted in UA fans emptying their stand, and what happened next was an arse beating of a couple thousand hillbillies.

Slightly older? Get the frick out of here.

You graduated on the heels of losing to Auburn 5 times in a row. No wonder you don't consider them a rival.
