Incompetent administration and boosters who run off potential good hires and end up with crappy hires combined with a lack of instate talent so they compete with MS, AL, Georgia for their talent

Tennessee was a power in the 90s while UGA and Clemson were down. Tennessee picked up many recuits there. Those programs coming up plus a decent Va Tech has hurt Tennessee recruiting.

Tech really hurt Vol recruiting in the Tidewater Region of Virginia.

It's not like Tennessee were slouches in the 80s under Majors.

Without Majors, there is no run in the 90s.

Randy Sanders, David Cutcliff and John Chavis just to name a few of the coaches on the Tennessee staff back in the day. They were all in their prime.

Going by that graph, why aren't either Mississippi schools SEC powers?

This isn’t about crying either. Football is far more complex than you seem to understand.

Tennessee is never getting back to what they were. Only way would be Saban and he isn't leaving Gumpland.

What are you qualifiers for what Tennessee was?

Is competing in the East outside the realm of possibility?

I'd say they're doing pretty well considering they have to fight with everyone for backyard recruits, share the smallest state in the south, and have to play Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and A&M every year.

I don't think you'll ever be relevant like you were in the 80's,90's and early 2000's. The landscape has changed. I like Tennessee but what y'all did to Majors was wrong.

By y’all, you mean Fulmer?

I’ll forever be a Majors guy.

Schools

That's part of it. I never said it makes you an automatic winner

The narrative that Georgia is underachieving is funny to me. Every other team in the nation not named Bama, Clemson, or Ohio State would be envious of UGA’s recent success

As a LSU fan who has personally witnessed 3 National Championships in his adult life as well a few blow out wins over Georgia, I disagree on being jealous of Georgia's success.

They have a storied past, huge stadium, Knoxville is a pretty nice city nestled right between Nashville, and Charlotte which seems like a recruiting hotbed. Why are they not competing with Bama, Georgia, and LSU for the top spot in the SEC?

Stop me if you've heard this before? They have had lousy coaching, the administration doesn't know their left hand from their right when it comes to football savvy. Recruits aren't streaming to all that chaos.

Like I said, shorthorns, stop me if you've heard this before?

Mike Hamilton, Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley, Dave Hart, Butch Jones, John Curry, Phil Fulmer and Jeremy Pruitt. Throw in a couple incompetent presidents and chancellors as well.
