Somewhat of an overrated narrative.St Louis and KC don't pull great CFB numbers and CBS NEVER restructured the TV deal after expansion although ESPN did.
it was the ESPN deal that was the driver. The expansion allowed them to restructure the deal for a better position.

Concur on Mizzou and the CFB TV Mkts. Their two major mkts are pro sports towns. But, like I said, Mizzou was not the first choice. They were the best option of what was left.

'22-'24 will be interesting as Big 10, Pac 12 and Big 12 TV deals get relooked (SEC CBS deal is also in that timeframe). The PAC needs a boost of energy and the Big 12 is at continued odds with each other. Will be interesting to see how the next round of expansion goes.

All credibility lost when you suggested Louisville to the SEC.

Just get rid of Vanderbilt, too, and be done with it.

I don't think it happens in the 22-24 round of negotiations but the streaming big boys will eventually get involved and throw
crazy money for the TV rights. It could happen A LOT sooner than we think for the PAC 12 because those guys are hemorrhaging money and the west coast is the home to FB,Netflix,Google, etc

How about OU or Ok State...or maybe TCU. TCU would have been cool for the DFW mkt.

1) Texas A&M joined and the sec needed team #14
2) big 10 rejected Missouri
3) Acc schools sec wanted rejected the SEC
4) Texas was doing Texas things to the big 12
5) OU thought they were going to the pac 12 with Oklahoma State
6) Missouri wanted out of the big 12, see #4 and 5
7) see #1
8) sec had to pick between Missouri and WVU for team 14
9) Missouri has more positives than WVU
10) this topic is old

Not sure why the sec didn’t target Florida state for spot #14

You're free to leave anytime you want without penelty.

I'm fine with Mizzou being in the
conference BTW.

OU turned us down and decided to stay with Texas. Maybe could have gotten 2 with OU and OSU, but we were not going to give up A&M and the Texas markets to take 2 in Oklahoma.
Regarding TCU, A&M already gives us that market for contract purposes. The only other Texas team we would take is Texas.

Why is Missouri in the SEC?

So we could have a rent-a-win on our schedule in a year where we aren't playing non-conference games.

Already targeted in the 1st round of expansion and they said no.

Where did you hear this? Why would WVU be a target instead of VT? (Much better choice)

Yes. Why are we ?

Should’ve accepted the jr membership spot in the Big 10. At least we would have Illinois to get up for in the major sports.

Yeah... easier schedule, more SJW student bodies in the Big 10.

There are no redneck shows on their network. That alone makes them better.

Pretty on target. OU going to the Pac got shot down when Texas backed out, as the Pac made it clear they weren't interested in OU unless it was part of the package deal that included Texas (Pac would only swallow their pride on academics if the money was right and OU coming with OSU didn't move the needle economically). OU wasn't going to abandon OSU and give up the Texas game, which is what would have happened if they'd gone to the SEC. So, for a variety of reasons, OU just wasn't going to happen.

When A&M left, Missouri concluded that the Big 12 wasn't a safe bet for the long term, and they were not part of the group that Texas had proposed to take to the Pac, so they had to look out for themselves. With the Big 10 out, the SEC was their only safe landing place.

FSU passed on the chance to join the SEC as part of the expansion to 12 with Arkansas. They burned some bridges in doing so, and now would be blackballed if they had a change of heart.
