Even if he won it all he shouldn’t be paid over 8. There are a few coaches in that range who have multiple nattys / more accomplishments. Ed Os contract is insane and look how that has turned out.

Ole Miss, like FAU before, is just a testing grounds to see if he’s matured as a coach. The training wheels are off, he’s at a real program now. If he doesn’t crash and land on his face, an elite job will come along. And unlike Mullen, he’s the type of guy to get fans excited and ADs by extension. He’s not going to stagnate in Mississippi for 9 years if he’s proven.
In a vacuum the LSU job would be rightly coveted, but he’s been the guy trying to clean up an ncaa mess at a coveted job before. I doubt he’d want to do it again. Michigan, Ohio State and Alabama. That’s probably the entire list of teams he’d leave for.
Wondering why the LSU job is inside a vacuum. Because it’s garbage under O?

Saban retires, Lane takes the Bama job.

Because it’s Mississippi, and Mississippi isn’t and never will be good at football.

Even with all the built in advantages at Alabama, I’d stay away from that job after Nick leaves.

Ole Miss isnt a destination job, lol. Thats the craziest most homer shite ive ever heard, but i know you were kidding when you said it. It was funny, i give you that.

It’s a destination job after Ark State, inside program and FAU

Honestly - I'd say it's just because Kiffin has always been a climber. The next job is better than this job sorta' vibe.
There would be nothing - nothing - wrong with a good coach going to Oxford and deciding "this is my spot". Pretty campus - lots of kids to recruit in a short distance - and all that. A man could be quite happy as a successful coach there. But I don't think Lane Kiffin is that guy.

Why is it a forgone conclusion that Lane will eventually leave Ole Miss?
Because an NFL team is going to snap his arse up at the end of the season.

Next stop is probably LSU.
You put a volatile head coach like Kiffin at a volatile institution like LSU and you've got a ticking time bomb waiting to go off imo. I think it'd be a disaster. Short term, it'd create a lot of buzz and probably be hot, but I can't see it being benefical long term, particularly to Lane.

Right now, he's Hal Mumme to me, he has a flashy offense against bad teams. We'll see what happens when you start playing better competition.

Florida State wasn't a destination job until Bobby Bowden took a shine to it. Alabama wasn't Saban's destination job - until he got tired of bouncing around and didn't like his taste of the NFL after having everything right where he wanted it at LSU. The list goes on and on.
It's funny - what schools are or are not "destination jobs". It always boils down to right dude in right place at right time ... with the wisdom to realize "I'm here. Unpack all the boxes, honey. Yeah - go ahead and join the local such and such. We'll be here a while."

Yes, but to keep him away from a Mich, Ohio St.,FSU, TX, N.D., BAMA, MIAMI, A&M, USC(2),WASH, PSU, AU, LSU ETCETERA...they may have to be willing to reach deep into their pockets.

Nobody wants to be Ray Perkins.
Lane will be coaching Jacksonville in 2 years.
