Georgia is 5 games ahead of Auburn in conference.

uneven sec schedules
UGA played the bottom three teams in the conference
not discrediting UGA though, that looks like a hungry, motivated team right now

Auburn has played the toughest schedule in the country and UGA is #38 according to Warren Nolan. Warren Nolan SoS
ETA: not saying UGA isn’t that good, because they win against good competition too. They just haven’t faced as much.

UGA got very lucky with the SEC schedule — LSU, SoCar and Mizzou all at home. Not UGA’s fault those teams suck, but at least acknowledge (1) having the good luck of them being on UGA’s schedule and (2) playing them at home made for a very easy 9 of their 21 conf wins.
UGA is obviously very good. But they aren’t 5 games ahead of Auburn if they had played Auburn’s schedule.

Because it does not mean a damn thing

That was just one of the examples.

Who is going to stop them? I suggest Chicken run a poll here. Monday morning tRant polls would be highly entertaining.

Allow me to retort:
We went 9-3 at Texas A&M, at Miss State, at Arkansas, and at Ole Miss
We’ve only lost one series all season in large part because Aidan King for Florida pitched out of his mind against on Friday.

BA and PG have been awful now for years at college. BA especially, they got gutted during cuts a couple of years ago.

Ole Miss ranked #22 with a winning record in the SEC and top 10 SOS while #13 West Virginia has a 22 run loss to Pitt and losses to Columbia, Kennesaw state, Liberty, and like 4 wins against top 25 teams. Makes sense!

UGA would still be one of the best teams if not still the best team. I just don’t think the title would be out of reach going into the last weekend of the season if you only play one of the teams (instead of all 3).

We already wrapped up the SEC title when we had 4 conference games left.... Baseball rankings are dogshit ...

You do realize Georgia has played 12 SEC games against teams that will not make the NCAA Tournament, don’t you? Auburn has played just three such games. That’s a NINE game advantage Georgia had.
AU and Georgia both played series against Texas A&M, Miss St, Florida, Arkansas, and Missouri…. Both went 11-4 in those matchups. Auburn went on the road in 4 of those 5 series. Georgia went on the road in just three.
Auburn vs Georgia is actually a perfect case study in the conference SOS discrepancy that a 16-member SEC can cause and how that affects championships.

You’re leaving out that Auburn also lost 2 conference series, including being swept by Bama.
UGA only lost 1 series and hasn’t been swept all year, but has swept 4 conference opponents (including at Miss State) compared to Auburns 1 (Mizzou)

looking forward to the series between the two later this week. It should be a good one!

It’s the regular season series of the year in every sense. Glad Thursday and Friday are getting an 8pm treatment. If I wasn’t tied up with work and my own kids baseball stuff, I’d drive over to watch in person.

Yes it’s worth pointing out that Auburn lost 2 series against the current #2 and #4 teams in the SEC standings while Georgia played the #14 and #15 teams instead.
Against common SEC opponents, Auburn won all 5 series and Georgia went 4-1.
Glad you pointed that out.

Waste of time, for me at least, even thinking about it.
