Why don’t players wear knee pads anymore?

Seems like that would be some key critical protection gear on the football field. But I rarely see anybody wear them anymore… even running backs.

ETA: no more than 3 posts before obligatory “A&M/padded knees” joke is played

Probably because they can put titanium knees into people now.

You can run faster without them (kneepads). Kind of like they are wearing shorts now. Also seeing this trend in baseball with State having some guys with shorter pants.

I think I saw a Georgia outfielder with these as well.

We did used to have some big ol thigh pads...and shoulder pads. But that was back in the day when you were supposed to target the ball carrier.
Now you have to give them a hug.

Present day football is less violent, so less pads.

I remember we had a WR in high school that didn't want to wear thigh pads because they hindered his speed. But, the coaches forced him to wear them when they noticed he didn't have them on. The officials were supposed to monitor this as well, but I don't think they really cared back then.

They really dont help a ton now a days. They're made so damn thin that I cant see what protection they may provide now a days.

Their players have protective callouses.
