Actually, the Alabama elephant is traditionally portrayed as an African elephant. Those cannot be domesticated. Only the Asian variety can be trained.
On a side note, did anyone see the folks petting the Memphis tiger during their first televised game this season? They were reaching into the little circus cage and petting him! Methinks that is surely a lawsuit waiting to happen. A tasty arm for the tiger though.

Because first on their list of priorities is a paint job for their 1972 Camaros?

You couldn't shoot an elephant but im sure tranquilizers would work. You dumb arse gumps would probably never be able to do it because you would rather just give the money to saban.

I'm sure there's probably more logistics behind it than "they're easily trained".
Do you not understand all that would have to be involved with trotting a fricking ELEPHANT onto a football field to run around?

Because you have to try out to be on the dance line at Alabama.

And the divots would be ankle-breakers on the field

There's been talk of it before but there are rules for housing elephants. One thing I remember is that they must be housed in pairs because they are social animals and they die if they are alone too long.

Scary. Was thinking about something like this today.

I've always wondered why Bama bothered putting somebody in an elephant costume when half their women wouldn't need one.

Been done. Too expensive and too dangerous to justify.

One like this? This is live mascot "Alamite" on campus in 1945.
