The problem is your belief that the announcers know or understand the rules ....Apparently just like you don't

I think you are guilty of not reading the whole rule section yourself re the "impetus" concept. When the ball hit the ground in play, making it a loose ball, and the Auburn player then touches it (assuming it's not a forced touch), the kicking team isn't responsible for impetus at that point and it's a live ball.

FR-86 RULE 8 / SCORING
b. Initial impetus is considered expended and the responsibility for the ball’s progress is charged to a player:
1. If he kicks a ball not in player possession or bats a loose ball after it strikes the ground

Hope is not much of a strategy.

It’s only a game.

If they weren't watching porn and jacking in the booth they could do a better job.

In what way did he kick or bat the ball that changed the initial impetus?

Are you saying that brushing his pinky on the way into the endzone constitutes ‘batting’ it?

The trajectory of the ball changed and it was obvious

I mean I don’t care anymore but don’t be clowns about it

It was a small victory that the team didn't wreck the bus on the way to the stadium. Such is the way with Kentucky Football.

You mean if he hadn't brushed it with his pinky it wouldn't have made it to the endzone?

I believe that's what is meant by "initial impetus" in the rulebook, but I'm not an official.

Of course those bitching about this seem to know more than the officials on the field and in the replay booth, apparently.

Hitting it with your hand when the ball has hit the ground is “batting” it in the context of the rule on impetus. It makes it a live ball and should have been ruled a TD here.

It apparently would not apply in a scenario where a player was fielding the kick in the air and it grazed his hand and went into the end zone.

Batting ARTICLE 3. Batting the ball is intentionally striking it or intentionally changing its direction with the hand(s) or arm(s). When in question, the ball is accidentally touched rather than batted. Batting the ball does not change its status.
Does this matter?
