Alabama does have the Medical School, but the main campus is in Birmingham. Auburn now gets more money, but that was not the case during our history. Before 1980 or so, Alabama got a much larger budget from the state.
However, none of that helps the athletic programs which are self sufficient.

I don't "hate" them because the girl I dated in college was an AU fan. Those cutoff shorts with a tiger tail is insanely sexy.
Best friend growing up was an AU fan as well. Love Barkley and Jackson.

No, we are not from educational funding, but being the stupid dawg you are, you have no idea what we are talking about with state schools. Think "University of ...". There is, and has always been, more recognition of the flagship university in any state and this runs over into sports. That Auburn is sandwiched in between maybe the greatest CFB program of all time and another University of... SEC powerhouse on our other side, and manages to not only compete, but win championships, is amazing.

What?You guys are in the middle of some of the most fertile recruiting ground in the country,have always had an "all in" administration and have had multi millionare sugar daddies donating whatever it took to
compete.
There's no reason not to be an elite program.
