I know as a Georgia fan I am supposed to hate Auburn & Tech but I continually find a sense of pity creeping into my heart for the teams we own. I must be getting soft in my old age.

Auburn has too many different story lines with schools that have nothing to do with rivalries (mostly getting coaches and players they wanted). Bama and UGA because they are rivals, Arkansas over Gus, LSU because we can beat bama and they can't, and the rest just hate that Cam ended up at Auburn and won. Aside from Bama (people are bored of years of making fun of fans and all the cheating in the last 30 years or so) there is no one else that's been as relevant consistently.

What I can't understand is that for many LSU Tiger fans, Auburn is their second favorite team.

Because their fans think they're on par with Alabama, Ohio State, USC, etc... in prestige.
The only similarity Auburn has to any of those programs is like Ohio State, their fans make it so easy to hate them.

Even if all these fan bases hate them, 99% of America is rooting for them during the IB.
