Clemson beat Alabama worse in 2018 than they did Notre Dame.

It's not just "did they win or lose" but rather "were they competitive"? Notre Dame hasn't even been competitive in those games. Not just a single game, which could be considered an outlier, but in all 3.

Once again, you’re acting like people are grouping Notre Dame with Bama, Clemson, UGA, and Ohio St. Literally no one is.

It’s easy to say a team is overrated for getting blown out by Clemson or Bama in the CFP, but who doesn’t? That’s been the entire theme of CFP these last few years.

Notre Dame gets blown out
Michigan gets blown out
Oklahoma gets blown out
Washington gets blown out
Cincinnati gets blown out
Michigan St gets blown out

All those teams are typically ranked in the 6-15 range, just like Notre Dame. It’s easy to say these teams are overrated, but who would do better?

Not to mention Notre Dame has beat Clemson and played 2 games with UGA that came down to the final drive. None of these other teams can say that.

Because when the get away from playing BC, Pitt, wake, Navy and air Force they get their teeth kicked in. When they got to the BSC title or CFP they were a non factor and frankly looked the level of a Miss State. They are overrated.

Kelly's lucky he presided over ND during one of the worst stretches of SC football or he wouldn't have been in the national mix a couple of those times.

Have you watched their performances in BCS/New Year's 6/Playoff games? They get crushed almost every single time. The average scores in those game is like 38-9

ND is a relic of a program living in the past. It's not 1973 or 1977 anymore. It's over for them.

There's a difference between being "very good" and being "elite."

In Kelly/Notre Dame's case, they haven't had enough elite level skill players to really compete with the elite teams who are actually contending for a title.

That could very well be Kelly's fault, we will see in the coming seasons.

Lets cut the BS.

Notre Dame's main claim now about why they aren't dominant is because they can't recruit dumb jocks like everybody else can.

They are the worst of the "we can't recruit dumb jocks" excuse programs. Stanford is right up there with them.

Notre Dame and Ole Miss were ranked 21st and 22nd in SOS for 2021.

Maybe LSU won't be hot garbage and hurt our SOS again this year.

In 2021, Notre Dame played FOUR teams with a winning record.
In 2021, Ole Miss played SEVEN teams with a winning record.

If they weren't grouping them with those teams thenwhy put them in the CFP BTW, the answer is below

BINGO, which is why expanding the playoff is stupid. Notre Dame got in a couple times because they couldn't find a 4th great team. People are like lets get 8 or 16. $hite, we can't even find FOUR teams worthy of the CFP.

The post season recalculated SOS rankings for 2021:
Ole Miss #12
Notre Dame #21

If you want to use those numbers, Notre Dame had the #7 toughest schedule the year prior.

You said it's a cupcake schedule but it's usually at least top #20ish.

Let’s check on the teams ranked behind Notre Dame and see if they’ve been more competitive than ND against the Elite tier of CFB these last 4-5 years…

#6 A&M: Nope
#7 Utah: Nope
#8 Michigan: Nope
#9 Oklahoma: Nope
#10 Baylor: Nope
#11 Oregon: Nope
#12 Okie St: Nope
#13 NC State: Nope
#14 USC: Nope
#15 Michigan St: Nope

Wow!

the students

Students are fricking stupid zoomers that would rather have a coach that looks good on TikTok than an actual football coach.

melt bitch. You’re dumb af if you think ND students don’t care about winning football games. Their student section is better than most SEC schools.

I’ve seen it firsthand. They never sit down, they’re loud, and they have several chants that rival LSU’s profanity

And yet there was no team more deserving of the #5 spot at the time. Not to mention this past team was their worst one since ‘16.

Eh. Since 2010 Notre Dame is an even 23-24 against ranked opponents, a record slightly worse than TCU and Boise State (both .500). That's 47 games against ranked opponents.

In that same time frame, UGA has played 59 (31-28 record), Oregon 47 (28-19 record), LSU 67 (43-24 record), Oklahoma 58 (39-19), and Alabama 75 (60-15). Okie State has even played more (53) and holds a better record (29-24). ND has played a whopping 5 more games against ranked opponents than TCU (21-21).

Notre Dame is a worse Oregon in terms of on the field performance, and until only this last season was on average overrated more than Oregon. If not for 2012 (the season they had to vacate), they'd be at around -28 over that stretch from 2010 to 2021.

Look no further than their last national title game appearance and their two appearances in the CFP.

This is pretty much it. I'd say in ND's last 3 BCS title/playoff appearances, it was clear there were better teams not ranked as high who were more deserving of the shot.

ND got it because of not having a title game and their name.

Notre Dame would barely make a bowl each season if they had to play in the SEC West gauntlet year after year.

None of your stats amount to diddly dick.

That's true; and if Alabama had been beaten badly by Clemson every time they played them, it'd be relevant.

Hence why I said (and you quoted):

quote:

Not just a single game, which could be considered an outlier, but in all 3

Alabama vs Clemson featured two very close games (which team winning 1), a big Alabama win and a big Clemson win (not to mention that Alabama's game vs Clemson was the title game, not the semifinal in which ND was drummed out of the playoffs both years they made it).

I find it amusing that you guys are quick to defend Notre Dame because you perceive it as a slight against Kelly. I'm sure the dude can coach just fine, but it doesn't change the subject that Notre Dame has gotten the benefit of the doubt more often than not.

Never said they didn't care. They're 18-22 yr olds that don't know shite and are irrelevant in this conversation. They were 8-12 years old when BK took over. They don't know anything else. They don't remember the Weis years.

Irrelevant.
