Maybe, sure. But the losses should be noted somewhere. Losing an SEC starter but signing a G5 starter should not result in positive portal credit.

Not necessarily OM. What about A&M? They could finish high in the portal rankings and still be way behind their losses.

In 2022 Kiffin was called the portal king and went from 10-3 in 2021 to 8-5 with the easiest schedule in the SEC. Should he have been called the portal king last year?

and 5 loss seasons in about half of them too. It also deserves mentioning 2 of those 10 win seasons were at FAU. His record at p5 schools isn't anything crazy good. He's 58-34 with a conference record of 35-27. So he's basically been about an 8-5 type of coach with a conference record hovering around .500. I wouldn't call that bad, but I think the OP's question of why people call him a good coach is somewhat valid. I certainly don't think he's as good as his salary would suggest

To me, he's great at developing QB and has a good offensive mind, but his decision making as a HC, his overall recruiting, and fielding a good defense leave a lot to be desired.

But when is he going to win the West… just once?
When they get a future NFL HOFer at QB.

Just like the last time Ole Miss won the west.

We’ve lost like 5 guys who were actually going to play and replaced them with guys who are 100% going to play.

Players like Walker Howard, Chris Marshall, Suntarine Perkins and Ayden Williams are elite additions.

State’s #1 player is at UGA now.
And you replaced him with nobody.

Yes, he was the portal king. We completely retooled the roster with mostly younger players like Dart, Trigg, Ivey, Tennison and Pegues. It was always a rebuild year. And we did not have the easiest schedule. Years where we play Arkansas, LSU, and TAMU on the road and Bama at home are our hardest years for obvious reasons. A pretty auto home loss and three of your five other division opponents on the road. I wouldn’t mind having an average rating of outgoing portals, but only to analyze my own team. But I have a really good grasp of the difference without it. Just like you would with State.

Will be interesting to see how blowing up the dynamics of your team and the locker room impacts the QB position

He obviously should have only kept one qb on the roster to not blow up the dynamics of the team.

Also, best I can tell we’ve only lost two starting players to the portal in two years. And one of them is Igbinosun, who we have a chance of returning. We cannot win high school recruiting like Georgia and Alabama can. But we’ve proven we can get the same type of players through the portal two years in a row now. I think it gives us a chance.

Kiffin is considered a good coach because he’s an elite offensive mind.

He’s taken Ole Miss teams with average talent and has had Ole Miss ranked in the top 10 in consecutive seasons.

I think if he can continue adding talent and let Golding handle the defense, he will have Ole Miss consistently competing for playoff spots in a 12 team playoff.

That’s pretty fricking good for Ole Miss. There are 100+ other college football programs that would kill for that.

Averages 4 losses a season. Including a stint at USC which shouldn’t be hard to win at

Sure that would be good at Ole Miss, but I also think that's wishful thinking if those are your expectations of him. He's never consistently competed in the top 12 as a P5 coach. And in the SEC, especially with the additions of OU and TX, I just don't see that happening consistently going forward. Obviously time will tell

I definitely agree that Sark shares similarities w/ Kiffin. Jimbo as well, but at least Jimbo got to the top of the mountain once.

well.....ok. We didn't hire him because of his defensive prowess. That's what we pay DC's for.
