Fan apathy.
Look up how many ACC stadiums have home attendance in the top 25.
That would explain why the acc isnt on par with sec/big ten, but it doesn’t explain why the acc is making similar to big 12. The acc has three teams in the top 25 of home attendance and one in top 30. The big 12 has only byu in top 30. The acc was ran very poorly.

I don’t think that’s true, attendance wise the big 12 has only byu in top 30. Acc has nc st Clem vatech and fsu in top 30. Unc Clem fsu and Miami also smoke the big 12 in tv viewership. They screwed up not making divisions regional. No one cares about wake forest vs bc. Nc state vs cuse. Or Pitt and Gt. Locally people cared about nc state vs duke, Pitt vs wvu. Never shopped any kind of streaming. Very poorly ran conference in general.

I mean Kiffin turned historically terrible Ole Miss into a top program. Prior to Kiffin Ole Miss was viewed exactly as Mississippi State. Now they are viewed in the same level as traditional powers.
That was all Lane Kiffin. Now at a powerhouse program… he is gonna be a problem for a hot minute.

Basketball also drives revenue. I guarantee UNC and Duke draw a ton of money per year. Them and Kentucky and Kansas are the kings of Basketball.
If this was true, Kansas would be in the Big 10 right now. They sure tried hard enough.
Football drives the bus. Everything else is in the bus.

Follow the money……bigger money equals better conference…..
Big 12 has better football than ACC. . Clemson hs not been championship caliber since Venables left. FSU is in the doldrums Miami cam on last year but that is it. As far as as Basketball Big 12 is better than ACC also Kansas, Arizona , Iowa St are consistent winners…..
It is what it is….

That’s the problem I’m impressed by what he did at ole miss but it’s a different animal than an lsu type job. Most coaches at powerhouses proved it somewhere else lesser first too. Being the team that circles an opponent vs being the one circled is a different ball game. The pressures different motivations different. Win 9 games at ole miss you’re a god, when nine games at lsu……congrats you get to keep your job. Les miles was fired for records that’d get you a statue at ole miss.

Poor management can destroy any conference, and something both the SEC and Big 10 need to be aware of. NOBODY is safe
You ask how the ACC is in bad shape, but hell- look at the Pac 12.
Consider- absolutely no geographical rival, they had zero market competition for anything West of the Rockies.
They had both classic Bluebloods (USC in football, UCLA in basketball) and modern New Money elites (Oregon in football, Arizona basketball) in the major sports. Arguably equal or better than the SEC for baseball. Plenty of secondary powers, great rivalries, regional continuity. Some fantastic TV markets. And with Stanford, you had the single best "wins in every sport" school, they have over 170 titles in all sports.
This should have been an untouchable conference, even if they just sat on their thumbs. But somehow, it went belly-up.
In contrast, the ACC and Big 12 have a lot less in their favor. The ACC is bloated and over-extended, it's basically 2 conferences without a single current elite now that Clemson is declining. FSU and Miami remain shells of their former selves, even with Miami making the title game. The Big East swallow has been a big loss, nobody on that side has been any good.
The Big 12 is a bunch of refugees and castaways, that couldn't make it into the conference expansion round.

The high lited teams don’t intrigue the east coast.
Also they know the league will lose some serious teams soon.

ACC to me messed up when they added all those Big East basketball schools. It funked up the conference.
Was a lot better when it was just 11 schools of:
Clemson
Duke
Florida State
Ga Tech
Maryland
Miami
North Carolina
NC State
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest
Before adding Boston College, Pitt, Syracuse

Okay
Frankly you could highlight:
Duke
Ncsu
Syracuse
bc
Uva
There’s not a day where I would sit down and watch these teams play each other.
In fact, I’m still pissed at the ACC for starting their 12:30 games on CBS that would run into the 3:30 SEC game here on the east coast.
They did that on purpose to get 4th quarter ratings.

Name 4 ACC teams you’d want to watch their football games on Saturday. I can’t name 1.
You can't name one when Miami was #2 last season?
