The dummies at the top were and are the bigger problem.

Arkansas high school football suffers from poor coaching and development. It also hurts that most Arkansas residents care little for high school football.

Back in the old SWC days they had some epic games with Texas. Are they just happy being mediocre? Does the administration not care enough to put the resources into it?

Not sure what you are talking about? First game I recall watching, Troy Aikman thumped the Hogs in a bowl game. Lots of Hog losses the whole way since. Getting a crap bowl is a solid season. Sigh.

The biggest problem is they don't have enough elite in state talent to recruit from. For them to be a powerhouse they would have to pull recruits from out of state consistently to add to the in state recruiting to be consistently great.

Just like Nebraska!

And it was the 6th “Game of the Century” in the 20th Century.

The point being it’s a dumbass media moniker.

Arkansas has a lot better football talent within the state than Nebraska does.

Yes and it was also the last game with white players before integration.

A lot of high schools and especially the ones in the Arkansas Delta consolidated because Lake Village school district sued the state because of lack of funding. This was in the early 2000s during the Bush no child left behind policies.

Consolidation destroyed high schools and thus football as well. The Arkansas Delta use to produce a decent amount of talent.

The tiny schools that were consolidated rarely produced any talent. Hell half those teams played iron man football. If anything consolidation should improve talent level not hurt it.

It didn't help anything except destroy school traditions and students had to bus or travel further to go to school. The area didn't have that much talent but consolidation hurt what little they had. When the state gets involved, they always screw it up. It is why we have a 7A and isn't necessarily as Arkansas is small and rural. The travel these schools have to do like 6A is pathetic.

How come Nebraska won some championships and none for Arkansas in football?

They recruited from coast to coast and didn't have as much coaching turnover as Arkansas. They only had to worry a bout Oklahoma which under the Barry Switzer years didn't win much against. They also had the first S&C program while the rest didn't care for at that time. They also benefited with an overabundance of scholarships which the NCAA put a stop to. They didn't necessary had more talent than the opponent but where simply more physical and billy clubbed teams to death. But the rest of college football surpassed them and they no longer have any advantages.

Arkansas won it in 1964 but just like Nebraska, they are all mythical as a playoff didn't exist to determine a true champion.

This thread may not age well. Pittman has the Razorbacks trending up and well..........y'all aren't, at least at the moment. Those hogs play tough, hard nosed ball, and I wouldn't be surprised if they give you all you want in 2 weeks.

That’s why I said from 1970-1990

Arkansas was a title contender in the 1960s, and so was Missouri

I figured we were talking about the post 60s CFB world

The only schools that were consolidated had 350 or less students in THE DISTRICT. That works out to slightly less than 30 students per grade on average. There is no way the high schools in those districts were teaching an appropriate range of courses for the kids to have any chance of ever getting into college without SUBSTANTIAL outside investment which is the exact resource lacking in most of those districts in the first place.

The Act 60 consolidation only impacted 27 districts in the whole state, all with less than 350 students total.
