A weak instate recruiting base + ethical boosters = losing.

Arkansas gave up and hired bad coaches once Ken Hatfield left.

Most of them play basketball in the Little Rock Metro.

Arkansas was top 15 historically before joining the SEC.

Arkansas can compete. It will again.

Honest answer as to why it is difficult? Demographically, we are basically Kentucky, minus a million people.

All those supposedly better Texas recruits got destroyed by Arkansas in September.

Making the correct hires that don't come back to bite you in the butt would be a great place to start!

Big Sam just might be that man!
He resonates with down to earth people.. just be patient while he builds a lasting foundation.

Don't repeat the mistakes of the past! When making the next hire after him..

He needs jets and helicopters so he can see more recruits and spend the time developing relationships with coaches and players all over the country.

Because Arkansas must broaden it's recruiting base. They do it all the other sports.
So, heck yeah, go for it! Why not?

Frank Broyles went to his grave never watching film of that game. That game sent him an earlier retirement.

Bad hires, incompetence and the secret ingredient of not caring at the top are the real issues.

Nutt should have won an SEC title with that team. What a waste.

and the in-state options that are elite tend to go elsewhere

Eh, we still get more than we lose.

2022 - got the top four in the state (all 4*)
2021 - top player to A&M, 2nd to Arkansas, didn't offer most of the others
2020 - 3 of the top 5 (not counting Chris Morris because he wasn't really an Arkansas recruit, spent a few months inside the border)
2019 - 3/5 including top two in 4* Treylon Burks and Hudson Henry, didn't offer #4 Darius Thomas
2018 - chose #2 Connor Noland at QB over #1 Gerry Bohanan, got 2 of the next 4 after that (one has since transferred to Arkansas from Notre Dame)

I would say two things have hurt us since joining the SEC:
1. The Texas recruiting is way down from what it was in the SWC
2. Poor coaching evaluations led us to not offering guys like Tre Norwood and Isaiah Simmons who went on to the NFL, among others. Simmons wanted an offer bad and Bielema didn't know where to play him. Norwood was the 8th ranked player in Arkansas in his class but OU offered and we didn't for some reason.

Arkansas abandoned Texas recruiting after they left the SWC. They simply stopped playing Texas and A&M in a time when it was more crucial than now.

Yes but the 69 game had 50 million viewers and Nixon in the audience. Both schools and tv decided to put the game in December as they know both teams would be unbeaten.

Yes if you include the decades before the modern age of football which Arkansas was terrible. But from the 60s to the 80s Arkansas was top 15 in those decades.

Correct. Broyles made it a priority that Arkansas wouldn't cheat at a higher level like Oklahoma did.
