Yea they certainly should be very good, but I just meant I don’t know if either have the potential to be superstar

baker was a senior last year, he is obviously going to be better than 2 freshmen. Stokes kinda came out of nowhere but Campbell was a 5* and one of the top CBs in the country, same can be said for tyrique stevenson who will be a TFr this year. They won't be baker-level right now but their potential (as you mentioned) is off the charts.

Campbell had 2 main problems last year. He is a speedster and could easily keep up with most receivers but the awareness and ball skills weren't too polished so would get flagged a lot. That's pretty easy to correct though, unlike trying to teach someone to be faster. Secondly, with as utteraly dominant as baker was, teams wouldn't really throw towards him so campbell as a TFr got the lion's share of targets.

That was probably part of it, but they weren't great even in games when their offense did move the ball some.

Alabama had 211 yards in the 1st half and the Auburn offense scored 14 pts and was on the field quite a bit. Tennessee had 170 yards in the 1st half and the Auburn offense had possession 50% of the 1st half.

Washington - 6.12 YPP
Miss St - 5.65 YPP
Tennessee - 5.82 YPP
Ole Miss - 5.20 YPP
Texas A&M - 5.35 YPP
Georgia - 7.48 YPP
Alabama - 8.47 YPP

I mean, that's a lot of yards per play against almost every offense with a pulse no matter how you slice it.

They were a good defense, but they weren't in the same league as those other 3......which isn't a huge dis, those 3 were all Top 5/10 defenses.

The defensive stats will look a lot better this year without the turnover machine Stidham giving the other team the ball.

This seems like a good place to reflect that State had one of the best defenses in modern college football last year and still lost five games.

It’s amazing that we managed to score 19 on them and still win by 16. Grant Delpit was their leading receiver too.

Turnovers didn't cause these numbers

Auburn Team Defense Ranks - SEC Games
3rd Down Conversions - 8th (39.5%)
Plays of 10+ Yards Allowed Per Game - 10th (15.3)
Plays of 20+ Yards Allowed Per Game - 10th (5.0)
Plays of 30+ Yards Allowed Per Game - 13th (2.9)

It will be the same as it has been the last few years - a big play (sack/TFL) and big play given up (10+, 20+, 3rd downs) defense.

Just an unreal unit. What that offense did to them was a damned shame.

Best defense will be one of Bama, LSU, or Auburn.

UGA will be close, but ultimately, putrid recruiting on the DL will prevent us from having the chops to be the tops.

So I would say that LSU had a better defense than Georgia in 18/19, and will definitely have a better defense in 19/20.

Relative to other UGA positions, it’s not great, but putrid is some serious hyperbole.

- I'm guessing Pruitt at Tennessee and Muschamp at Carolina will have those units better with more talent and some good returning players.

Coonskin Hatters will have the worst D-line in the SEC. And their O-line won’t be much better.

Auburn had what was supposed to be a great defense last year. They just got tired of trying to cover the lions share of the load because that offense was unproductive most of the year. That defensive showing vs MSU was

True, but Auburn's offense could be a lot better this year. The system generally works better when they have a good dual threat QB running the show, and this year they'll have a choice between two (Gatewood and Nix). This would obviously take a lot of pressure off the defense.

Best defense will be Bama. Second best defense will be Bama 2nd string.

Yea and now Fitzgerald is gone. Mississippi State has peaked and is now sliding back into perennial 5-to-7 loss territory.

Had the same feeling at LSU/state in '18 as I did at LSU/bama game back in '16. They could have played those games till Monday morning and losing team's "O" wasn't getting in the end zone.

FYI - in SEC games only - state's "D" was not #1 in scoring or total "D".

Well yeah I know y’all didnt lose a lot of guys, but to be quite frank of yalls cornerbacks last year, none of them looked that special besides baker.

So, out of two cornerbacks the true freshman didn't look special?

Okay. Outside of Devin White, none of LSU's LB's looked special. How are you going to replace him? I mean, the production there has to drop, right?

My point is you really aren't familiar with our players (Just like we aren't all that familiar with LSU's). However, if you check out how we have been recruiting the last three years, you would know that the lions share of the talent has been on defense.

Take a look at:

Adam Anderson
Nolan Smith
Brenton Cox
Nakobe dean
Travon Walker
Tyrique Stevenson
Lewis Cine
Rian Davis
Tyon Campbell
Quay Walker
Otis Reese
Channing Tindall
Richard LeCount
Robert Beal

There is a ton of talent that has gotten a lot of playing time/ex[erience and is ready to step in and take on bigger roles.

Don't get me wrong...I understand LSU has gotten a ton of talent on defense, too. I have no doubt LSU will have a great, hard hitting defense.
