Definitely Coach Prime imo. The guy was able to get 5 stars at Jackson State. 12-0 record this year. Everyone wants to play with Prime. Glad Auburn went with freeze.

Freeze will undoubtedly be a better hire than Coach Sanders, considering Coach Sanders has proven zero at the big boy level of football coaching at this point in his life.

What are we judging success by?

Colorado is already at the bottom of the barrel and can’t really go any lower.

Long term, I think Freeze will have more success and Sanders will just use Colorado as a stepping stone and bolt as soon as a bigger school comes calling.

Freeze offense is nothing new at the college level.

Prime has 0 competition at Colorado after USC and UCLA leave, though they really haven’t been anything special in about 20 years anyway. Prime will get them going by exposure alone.

Depends if Prime has support from CU admin and boosters which I question he will. I think Prime can do well but it has to be the right situation where he can do his own thing with support from the school (admissions/NIL money) but minimal booster interference. At Auburn there would be way too many cooks in the kitchen and his leash would be too short, but at Colorado I don’t know if the football investment is there to help him succeed. He will get Colorado better from talent alone but overall I think Freeze is the safer bet at Auburn.

not sure why people think this is automatic at this level. Charlie Weis had about as solid of a winning football pedigree as you could possibly ask for and he was a failure.

Freeze, Auburn has money. Colorado AD just admitted they don't have the money to pay prime's contract yet. So that means bargain basement assistants.

Has anyone ever seen a new coach press conference where the AD says we don't have the money to pay you?

Freeze for me as well. Idk how it will all shake out with Auburn (because it’s a different kind of program than most others), but to me Deion is a coach second. He’s a brand first. I thought Auburn could do well with a brand, but Freeze knows the nuts and bolts that make a competitive SEC team. Prime will do what he did at JSU at Colorado. Colorado is a nobody, and he’ll make them middle of the pack to wind up taking his brand to a bigger school in a few years. I’m not saying he won’t be successful in spurts, but I don’t see a whole lot of staying power in his current modus operandi. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong, who knows. He’ll always recruit well, but I struggle to see him building and maintaining a program entirely centered around himself.

Pretty simple

Recruiting: Prime easily
Coaching: Freeze

Any big school that hired Prime had to put all their money on 5 stars running out there and out talenting everyone. I think AU saw how this worked out for Jimbo and passed. Because in the SEC, you're not going to be the only team with highly ranked croots.

It might work in the Pac-12, though. We'll see.

This is the reason he won at JSU. He hasn't run a major FBS program yet where he is competing against other 5 star players.

Freeze was a no-brainer for Auburn.

It’s freeze. We already know he can coach at the power 5 level. I still think prime needs quality assistants to prop up his recruiting. He’s welcome to prove me wrong tho.

One fanbase is excited one is fractured, pretty easy which is better

Recruiting: Prime easily

why?

Him simply walking into a room and telling the family "I'm deion sanders. Wathc my nfl highlights" can work for HBCU kids that don't have any other high major offers. And getting the occasional kid like Hunter. Is that going to work on kids that have high major offers from all over the country and can pick wherever they want? Will it work when his team goes 3-9 his first season?

If you're entire recruiting pitch is "look how good I used to be back when I played 30 years ago", it's only going to work for so long before you need to actually put up results on the field.

Coach Prime at Auburn > Hugh Freeze at Auburn >>>>> Coach Prime at Colorado.

He won’t be able to recruit to that location unless they load up the NIL. Lots of kids would love to play for his brand but not many will do it for free.

I fear Hugh Freeze's coaching ability bunches more. If he wasn't a lack of morals time bomb waiting to blow up in Mr. Yalla Wood's face I'd be terrified.

Long term, maybe Prime but immediately, Freeze and it ain't even close. Recruiting kids to Colorado, other than pot heads, isn't going to be easy, even for Neon Dion.

Something to consider. It’s pretty easy to win at the FCS level when you have a handful of 4-5 stars and all your opponents have nothing but 1 & 2 star athletes. Now he’s at the FBS level where every week he will facing opposition that has the same level of talent he does. Let’s reserve judgment on the coaching ability of Prime until he’s had a season or two facing teams on an equal footing.
