Then it must never happen. You must know everyone from the Sip.

The first time I heard it was around 2012. It's at least 10 years old.

I agree “The Sip” is terrible and I cringe every time I see Kiff say it but don’t ever disrespect Colonel Reb. One of the greatest mascots of all time.

Still, Geaux to Hell Ole Miss

We don't have an official mascot anymore. What we do have is a Colonel Reb, which is done by a private organization, that walks around the Grove. We kind of still have him without the school being official about it.

The bear and landshark lizard thing are both long gone.

I don’t know what to tell you, other than the fact I’ve heard black people say it for most of my life. I’m not implying it was ever super common

Here’s the urban dictionary definition which was created in 2005. We did not make this up out of thin air The ‘Sip

I personally used “Da ‘Sip” as my location for my handle on this site for like 10 years until I recently changed it to Memphissippi

Good. Keep his spirit alive by any means necessary. I hate Ole Miss but every time I hear From Dixie with Love someone starts cutting onions around me.

Yes, they do.

I grew up in Mississippi and I've heard it for years.

Anecdotal evidence

mean Louisiana is called “The boot” bc it looks like one and people actually have referred to it as such for many years.

That’s fricking crazy! You live in a state and have heard it called the boot before!

quote:

cool. Never ever heard of the state being referred to as “the Sip”.

Well then. Since you’ve never heard of it. Must not be a thing.

quote:

Not ONE person I know from MS ever says they are from “The Sip.”

See!? How could it be true!? Not ONE person you know has EVER said they were from this so called “Sip”.

Well sir. I’ve got news for you. I have heard it called the Sip and it’s pulled directly from the spelling of the state. Because you haven’t heard the sip in reference and you seem to be flummoxed, I’m going to help you out. MissisSIPpi, it’s in the name.

Also, never heard anyone from Louisiana call it the boot. Cute how you came up with a nickname that smells like it’s residents.

I thought this was going to be about A&M fans calling Texas fans t sips.

So let me get this straight... Ole Miss took the insult A&M fans use to refer to UT fans and proudly use it to refer to themselves?

That's just about the most Ole Miss thing ever

It’s the state’s official 2 letter abbreviation you idiot. Saving myself from having to type out the whole name everytime. You do know that Mississippi is MS, right?
