I thought the same until I went to Bud Walton Arena for a game when both teams were really good. And I found it unique and fun. That arena was rocking.

Pat Henry is a great coach and an even better man. I was real disappointed to see him go.

I read through this whole thread and still don’t understand what happened last night and why they changed hotels.
Also, both NWA and Tennessee are beautiful places to spend a vacation.

Nice write-up in your blog, H2O! I read Lucky's article in One Mile at a Time yesterday, and your chart would have been helpful yesterday when I was trying to keep it all organized in my head.
I actually welcome this change. Dulles is my main airport, and the Capital One Lounge here is wonderful. However, it's worthless if there's a long wait, particularly since it's still 10-15 minutes away from most gates. (Plus the United Club in concourse D is just a terrible backup. We must have the worst United Club in the country). The overcrowding from these liberal guest policies have hurt the overall experience.

It’s similar to the entire 2020 season

Others have given some good tips, and here’s something I’ll throw out there as a unique experience. I’m not sure if you all like Indian food, but even if you don’t, walking down Brick Lane around dinner time is a truly unique experience. The street is lined with restaurants, each with a “promoter” trying to lure you into theirs. They are loud and kind of funny. You can haggle with them to try and get a good deal. And the food at most restaurants is fantastic.
I went to grad school in London and lived there for a while, and I would always bring visiting friends there for a dinner and they all had a blast

re: WSJ: WH likely to switch to tiered approach to Chinese tariffs. Overall reduction to 65%
Posted by Uhtred on 4/23/25 at 1:02 pm
WSJ put out an article last Friday detailing how, on April 9, while Navarro was in another meeting, Bessent and Lutnick rushed into the Oval Office to persuade Trump to put a 90-day pause on the tariffs and consider a different pathway forward. Without Navarro in the room pushing back, they were successful in getting him to change his mind.
WSJ link here, behind paywall, though, so for those of you who don’t have a subscription may not be able to read it.

Great idea to stay for a while in both places. I took the train from Interlaken to Florence years ago. We did an overnight train to save a day of exploration. Although the views from that train ride are probably worth a day

The queen died two seasons ago, and what did that have to do with Saliba’s injury?
But you’re right about one thing, Newcastle has owned us this year. We can’t break down that back 5 and Gordon and Isak have murdered us on the counter.

The GAO estimates on the high end there is around $600 Billion in fraudulent payments between those three every year.
Could you provide a link to this? I’ve been reading up on this and reports I’ve seen from the GAO state an estimate of around $160b… still incredibly outrageous and ridiculous, and I’m eager to see where the remaining $440b is coming from.

Relative to the deficit, it’s essentially a rounding error.
For all the talk of massive cuts, up to $2t, this can’t really be seen as anything other than a total disappointment and letdown, and should make people wonder what else this administration is blustering and bluffing about.

This is where I am. Some people have not been around long enough. It has been worse.
While things may have been worse, we've never been in a situation where this was orchestrated, purposefully, by the President of the United States.
I think most of us can agree that something needed to be done with regard to the debt and rising deficit. In addition, many countries had disproportionate tariffs that put American goods at a disadvantage.
But the chaos with which this has been rolled out - the seemingly deceiving manner in which the administration is conflating 'trade imbalance' with 'tariff rates', the lack of a clearly communicated strategy, the conflicting intended results (are these reciprocal tariffs with the goal of getting other countries to reduce theirs or is this meant to increase revenues? I don't think both can't be true), etc., - all at the cost of everyday Americans' retirement accounts, which will also crush any small business that relies on imported goods, erodes the trust with which many of us had in this administration as a pro-business boon to the country.
Many assumed we would see a lot of action in the M&A world, new IPOs, etc., but with the inconsistency of the messaging and the chaotic decision-making, businesses have little to no ability to plan long-term because nobody knows what will happen next week.
There may be a clearly-orchestrated plan that makes sense. But we haven't heard it. We just hear sound bites that seem to contradict themselves.
ETA - the manner in which they're trying to achieve their goals is insane - not the goals themselves. I hope the debate can center on this moving forward... not whether 'something' needed to be done, but how it should be done.

I’m with LemmyLives here. I live in the DC area, and the drive down 95 is the worst.
If you wanted to opt more for mountains than coast, taking I-81 and checking out Skyline drive, Blue Ridge Pkwy, Smoky Mountain National Park, etc., would be a nice drive.
Chattanooga is basically halfway to Mandeville from here and there are quite a few fun things to do for a family there - Lookout Mountain and the incline railway, Ruby Falls, Rock City Gardens, etc.
We typically drive back to Louisiana to visit family (we bring our dog) and Chattanooga has become our traditional stop on the way back

re: Anyone ski Les Arcs in France or advise on the best Alps ski resorts?
Posted by Uhtred on 3/23/25 at 9:59 pm
I took my family to Les Arcs a few years ago and we’ll be going to Val d’Isere next season.
Les Arcs has a ton of terrain, lots of diversity from one area to the next. Throughout the area, amazing food for cheap compared to Colorado/Utah/California… frankly, everything is less expensive except the flights and I use points anyway.
I’ll be heading to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for Mardi Gras next year on a bit of a boys trip. They call it Fasching in Bavaria, and it’s a blast.
ETA - it’s easier and cheaper in the Alps. The snow is better in the Rockies, imo, but it’s easier and cheaper with the family in the Alps, except Switzerland, which is expensive. France, Austria, Italy, and Germany are wonderful.

This should be an annual series, for sure. 2 of the best 3 programs in college baseball history.
