Russ Washington also comes to mind. Henry Marshall might get a chance. Might be my bias as a chiefs fan suffering through the days of a backfield including Mike Livingston, Tony reed, Ted McKnight and Arnold morgado.

I'd give my left and right nut to watch Bo run the ball one more time at AU. Herschel for UGA as well for that matter. Men amongst boys, and it was a beautiful thing to watch.

I remember Bo playing for royals running up the fence to make a catch. He played for raiders but damn he was fun to watch. Still probably the best overall athlete in my lifetime.

Steve Atwater for Arkansas was a beast at safety. He would probably be ejected these days for some of his hits. In his prime he could have played in any era…

Herschel Walker at the height of his college form, would be ANY team's starter today.

Auburn would take Bo.
Florida would take Emmitt
Oklahoma would take AD

How about a backfield of Vince Young, Earl Campbell, and Ricky Williams

Before my time, but probably Lee Roy Selmon from the scraps of old film I've watched and the many tales passed down.

Yes, he would start today, even at 253 lbs, though they'd probably pack some more weight on him with modern training.

DT for sure. He would start at any school in any generation. He was that good.

Reggie White
Peyton Manning
John Henderson
Eric Berry
Heath Shuler
Tony Robinson

Take your pick. Any of them would be starters today.

Probably not at Bama pre-1971, but not due to a lack of talent.

I played 95% of my Tecmo Super Bowl defensive career as DT. I pretended it was college ball, and KC was close enough in color to be OU. Phoenix was closer, but frick that.

Earl Campbell and no, because he is wheelchair bound

Yes on Earl Campbell. Earl Campbell in a wheelchair still out plays modern running backs. Just don't plan much on pass catching plays, just toss the ball in the wheelchair and get out the way.

texas had teams like that, 3 deep better than other swc teams. It was ridiculous.

But on another note, I would have liked to see Matt jones at qb with DMac, Jones and Hillis. That would have been fun to watch and hard to defend. We could just never get these groups on the field at the same time dammit.

In their prime, why would any “best player ever” not start?

Probably not from older eras.

There are plenty of Bama legends from the Bryant era that just wouldn’t have the size, speed, strength, or skill to jump in a time machine and start in 2025. They would be physically outmatched and mentally overwhelmed.
