Great resources, fan base, and recruiting advantage....that and it's not like you'd be following a legend.

I'm not sure what great young coach wouldn't want the job. You basically show up, add water, stir and get 8 wins a year and $5 million. If you are just slightly competent you'd win 10/year easily.

Not sure why aTm has made such crappy hires over the years.

Maybe Chief's defenses wouldn't look so bad if a) Sumlin's offense wouldn't leave them out on the field all day. It's called running the ball. b) If y'all recruited some good defensive players from SEC country, not Big XII country since c) high school kids in Texas and Big XII country haven't been taught how to play solid defense in years. Y'all have forgot about that side of the ball almost completely.

Do you think Venables wants to be a head coach? Narduzzi is ahead of him at the moment.

A&M yes has the opportunity to become a football power but something is holding the university back from doing so. This is why Bear Bryant left. If you research the Bear's time at A&M you will see that there was always a wall around opportunity in College Station
Fast forward 60 years the wall is still there. Little pieces have fallen off especially during Jackie Sherill's reign and 2012 but other years has added to this wall.
Maybe it is self doubt or maybe it is a little brother complex I do not know but to think one Coach in one year can fix the problems in College Station is a bit ignorant

I get the frustration with Sumlin. He hasn't gotten it done and he's not going to. We're in the hardest division in college football, going against one of the greatest coaches of all time. Mediocrity isn't going to get it done.

But what's the point of replacing one mediocre coach with another mediocre coach? I'd rather stick with Sumlin than make some stupid move out of frustration. Outside of Chip Kelly, nobody mentioned in this thread is any better than Sumlin.

In terms of pure coaching ability, the following are leaps and bounds better than Sumlin:

Pat Narduzzi (Pittsburgh, former Michigan State DC)
Mike McEntyre (Colorado Head Coach)
Craig Bohl (turned NDSU into a juggernaut in 4 years, had Wyoming winning a division and bowling in 3)

Honestly, I agree with you. There is a mental block in the entirety of TAMU's athletics department. It has nothing to do with talent or ability. It is psychological. It is psychological because we alway melt on any national stage across the board. We need to spend a few million on the best sports psychologists around to help our athletes with the mental aspect of winning. I firmly believe that our chronic choking is 100 % psychological.

Our second problem is that we stick with loser coaches too long. Sumlin should have been fired after losing to Alabama 59-0. You never recover from things like that, and it is totally evident that he will not get it done. We should have cut bait with him immediately after that game. Same with Fran before he completed his first season. Nobody worth a shite loses 77-0. Sure, you get your arse kicked when you don't have any talent, but not like that.

Neither of those coaches should have been allowed to finish those seasons. Neither Fran or Sumlin would have survived such losses at tu, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, or even Tennessee and UGA. Until we get enough of a killer instinct to do what needs to be done, we will flounder by holding lame duck coaches for too long.

Look at where we are this year. Sumlin is in year 6 and after year 3 we knew he was toast. What took us so long?

Mack Brown coached for an additional 12 seasons after losing 63-14 to Bob Stoops.

Saban was shut out 31-0 by Franchione at LSU IN BATON ROUGE.

Those aren't the same as 77-0 and 59-0.

Just sayin'.

He canceled the poor horn football camp in Louisiana, that is the only reason Montgomery Horn started this thread

Said the Horn on an SEC board. Bear Bryant played football at Bama and left A & M to coach at his alma mater. Nothing more, nothing less.
