Edit: I was just looking at the talent at the coaching position vs the one they replaced them with. Not wins and losses.

UF-Spurrier to Zook

UGA baseball-Polk to Perno

UGA basketball-Herrick to Felton

UGA gymnastics-Youclan to Clark

UT womens basketball-Summit to Warlick

James Franklin went 9-3 in 2013

Derek Mason went 3-9 in 2014

My math may be fuzzy, but that appears to be a 6-game drop. Wouldn't you agree that's more than a three-game drop?

Also, Mike Leach in 2022 went 9-4

Zach Arnett in 2023 went 5-7

My math says that's a 4-game drop off, which seems to be greater than 3.

ok my apologies, Deboer is better than Zach Arnett and Derek Mason. apologies for any insult

2. Alabama football - Saban to DeBoer

Nick Saban went 7-6 his first season at Alabama

Yep.

If you're going to make this entire thread just to troll one Alabama season, you need to add Mike Shula (16–8) to Nick Saban (7–6) to even try and make it make sense.

But you know why it still doesn't? Because you're an idiot.

Not only is the answer Chad Morris, but he actually made all of these off season threads worthless.

“Worst hire”, “Worst coach”, “Most hurt your fandom” offseason threads are prime real estate for discussion during the summer months. But the answer is always Chad. He took that away from the Rant.

We need to have these threads start as “Excluding Chad Morris” to have better banter.

Girl's sports doesn't count. Nobody cares.

Im going Arkansas with Petrino to J.L. Smith. That move right there, ruined the football program, and it still affects it.

still makes me laugh that they paid tens of millions for this downgrade

Yeah, that never made any sense whatsoever.

There it is again, Bama fans telling us what sports matter and which ones don't.

Running tally:

Matters

Football, unless Bama loses four games again
Men's basketball, from 2021 forward

Doesn't matter

Baseball
All women's sports, except for softball prior to 2025
Anything else Alabama is not good in

Orgeron to Kelly should be one. At least he won a title. Kelly never will

One that flies under the radar b/c of the record, but looking back, the drop off we had as a program overall from 2004-2005 w/ the Cutcliffe Orgeron transition was awful.

Maybe the biggest one on here. Warlick tried her best but she was no Pat. Of course, no one is.

Tubby Smith to Billy Gillispie
Rich Brooks to Joker Phillips

Both abysmal for Kentucky

This chart is not purely based on record from one season to the next, it is the total coaching job.

In that case, then LSU going from Saban to Miles needs consideration

That makes no sense. Les did a very good job in his first season and went on to a stellar tenure.

The drop off after Skip retired wasn’t immediate because there was still a lot of talent on the roster. Turtle Thomas remained as recruiting coordinator and they recruited well at the beginning of Smoke’s tenure, even several key players on Mainieri’s CWS teams in 08 and 09 were Smoke recruits. He made the CWS in 03 and 04 but couldn’t win a game in Omaha.

Skip’s last 2 seasons:
2000: Won CWS
2001: Lost Super Regional to Tulane
Skip retires
Enter Smoke Laval:
2002: Lost Super to Rice
2003: Made CWS (0-2)
2004: Made CWS (0-2)
2005: Eliminated in Regional
2006: Missed postseason
