Been reading this guy since his days at the Kansas City Star. I don't always agree with him, but I've always got the impression that he's telling you how he see's it.

Dude... the Alabama poster right above you just denounced this.
No he didn’t. Y’all are gonna cheer like crazy for him everytime you see him. No Bama fan will dare tell him, or let the university know, that what he’s doing is a danger to democracy. Such a shame because most people in Alabama are super conservative, and care a whole lot about our rights, but football is more important than our democracy I guess.

I’m currently eating breakfast at a restaurant in a small Alabama town and overhead someone saying, “He needs to keep his mouth shut and stick to football.”
I have two thoughts:
1. I think it’s best for college football coaches to stay out of politics entirely.
2. I do think Saban’s rare ventures into politics have been for the sake of recruiting by catering to black athletes.

I have no idea who is Whitlcock, so why should I ever care what he thinks?

It’s amazing to me that you dumbasses actually think 17 year olds give a flying frick what is going on in politics.

Nick isn't even on Twitter. He knows full well the political makeup of Alabama and came out with his opinion in spite of certain backlash... and that makes him a coward to you?

I think his BLM march with the players was about perception.

There's no doubt their families do along with the AA community.
Spend a couple of weekends in a black church and listen to the topics.Politics are front and center at least 50% of the time.

Yeah...anyone who calls Saban a coward for attaching his name to that letter, given how red the state of Alabama is, is not thinking clearly. I disagree 100% with his support of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act but to call him a coward for announcing his support for such a bill demonstrates a below average intellect.

Saban’s a Catholic. He may go to a boat church just to go to church while he’s on the lake, but I seriously doubt what you described is his regular mode of worship.
The only comment I’d make about Whitlock is he seems to be assuming that there’s something inherently “conservative” about being an athletic coach to where it would be inherently impossible for Saban to have voted that way. I’ll simply note that Vince Lombardi and Dean Smith off the field and court and politically were both very liberal Democrats.

Meh.. doing it in the 11th hour is a bitch move. If he was that serious about it, he’d have campaigned for it long ago… all while taking questions from the media about it, so the Bama fanbase and SEC could understand his radical political views. He sucks. frick him.
