I would guess LSU would be way ahead in this catagory. As proof, once I went to a very large black tie wedding here in New Orleans and there were a LOT of guests wearing LSU tees and hats. Also see them frequently on street corners and beneath underpasses when I go to the opera or have a meeting at the bank to discuss investment strategies.

We can speculate that my scientific observation of the situation in Nee Orleans is valid nation wide.

Incidentally... who the heck wears college tee shirts and hats anyway?

I work with two huge LSU fans in Gadsden, Alabama. They hate Bama as much as you guys do.

I don’t count Florida bc most of their fans are fair weather type.
Hate to admit it, but you’re right. Same with FSU and Miami. In the state of Florida, whosever winning is the “it” team amongst casual “fans.”

I think there are several reasons for this, but a major factor is the influx on Yanks and other persons who move down here in mass droves who are either Big 10 fans or new to college football due to the prominence of the NFL in the region. As a result, many people pick a “side” and generally shift from team to team depending on success. This breeds the fair weather culture amongst future generations, as they steadily dilute the true generational Floridian fandom.

I know most students probably don’t give a shite but 3 to 1 ratio of ole miss stickers to Memphis is hard to believe.

I shite you not. Now, I will grant you, it was the middle of summer so there weren't nearly as many students on campus as usual... but Memphis has lousy fan support.

When the basketball team is doing well they will turn out in droves. They finally started turning out towards the end of last season to support the football program... despite Memphis being a very legit G5 team for years.

Memphis is a fickle sports town. When they love you, by God they love you. However they can stop loving you in a heartbeat and once they do you might as well be on the dark side of the moon.

Mix that with a large population of SEC alumni who are fanatical about supporting their schools and you have a major university in a sports crazy city that can't get the time of day.

I don't think people are switching allegiances, but I think there probably are more fairweather fans simply because of the amount of people that live in Florida. You live in a large state you are going to get more casual fans.

Which SEC team has the largest following in the southeast?

Which ever has the most popular color scheme at the time.

See North Carolina during earlier years. A crap ton of stuff for their school was sold because the colors were insanely popular.

There might not be anything more annoying than starting a conversation with someone about college football because they portray themselves as a die hard fan only to find out about 30 seconds in they're just a t-shirt fan and have no idea what they're talking about.

If that's the most annoying thing you've ever encountered would you switch lives with me?

There are several programs or so called blue blood programs that have somewhat National followings, like the Patriots, Steelers, and Cowboys do in the NFL. In my opinion they are Notre Dame, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, FSU, Michigan, and Ohio State.

I've travelled around a lot, and there are definitely more Alabama and LSU fans walking around than any other. Next would probably be Georgia or Auburn.
