Traveled around the West this Summer and saw LSU and Bama T-Shirts and Hats most everywhere I went.

Those are definitely the top 4, except for when Florida was a powerhouse and their fans were wearing sleeveless shirts and backwards hats in every town in America.

Don't see a whole lot of them these days though.

Bama for the time being. Never underestimate how many people in this world latch on to whatever team is winning at the moment in an effort to make themselves feel better about themselves.

I live in Northwest Mississippi. The five most followed teams in Desoto County are

1) Ole Miss
2) Mississippi State
3) Tie between Alabama and Arkansas
4) Tennessee

This is just based on the car tags and t-shirts I see on a regular basis. I don't know about anywhere else. I'm sure the answer to the OP is Bama because there are Wal-Marts throughout America.

I can see that. I also feel like outside of Auburn and bama in the state of Alabama, LSU has a large following.

There might not be anything more annoying than starting a conversation with someone about college football because they portray themselves as a die hard fan only to find out about 30 seconds in they're just a t-shirt fan and have no idea what they're talking about.

I don’t count Florida bc most of their fans are fair weather type. I’ve always seen Georgia fans. Good and bad years. I’d assume LSU is the same way

Agreed. They have their truck decked out in LSU and LSU gear then you try to ask them about the recruiting class or depth in the trenches for example and it’s like you’re speaking Chinese.

Bama has always had a larger loyal following than the rest of the conference, and at the moment has the largest bandwagon following as well. Some of those that got on board in the last decade will flip eventually, and others will remain Bama fans for the rest of their lives. Like it or not, this conference has always been Bama and the rest. Other teams have enjoyed tons of success, but nobody approaches Alabama. Success breeds a large following

I agree. People act like bama has never been good and once the dynasty is over, their fan base will become another Vandy with BDS being empty on game days.

Alabama is a big name and will always have fans just like LSU or Georgia.

To be fair, we, the message board contingent, are the 1% of our fan bases. I know people that donate tens of thousands of dollars annually and have season tickets and couldn’t tell you who we’re recruiting or who the backup tackle is. That isn’t an indicator of love for a school or football team. We are going to know more about all of that shite because we all spend too much time here and other places around the web that track that stuff

Memphis itself is a big Ole Miss town, with State and Arkansas jostling with the University of Memphis for the second spot.

I drove past the Memphis campus a few days ago and Ole Miss stickers outnumbered Memphis by a three to one margin. They love the BlackRebelBears up here.

The teams are in the Southeast, but their fans are everywhere. Come on, you understand...right?
