the "way" more part was what i was referring to, not because a&m fans don't travel really well (they do) but because alabama fans travel EVERYWHERE and in droves, even when they're not good.

Damn strait yall did! Hell, after you guys left they had to evacuate the whole damned county and sanitize the place before they let us back in.
Aha! So that's the excuse y'all are going with. You were light-headed from the lingering cleaning fumes during the USCe game.
Eh, I'll buy it. I'm feeling credulous today.

What I have seen at Auburn in my years
UGA and Bama are obviously tops here. Being the closest and both being rivalry games, its helps. But, for the most part, they are the biggest draws
LSU would be next. Lots of LSU fans are at the games at JHS. I will also say that other than UGA games, I see more "issues" when LSU visits. Take that for what its worth.
USCe brought a big group of fans to the game in 2010
Florida has been poor
Miss St and Ole Miss are both poor draws here
Outside the SEC, Clemson brought the house to Auburn. Once again, I think it is due to the area ("Georgia and SC) having so many close fans.
Arkansas - LUTZ
TAM - I was so drunk before the TAM game last year, everyone in the stadium could have been aggies. I would not have known

2) A&M (seriously, there were a frick ton this past Saturday in Oxford)
Good to hear, even if they were tearing tents down and trying to claim land for the Lone Star State.

To Tuscaloosa, my observation has been
LSU
Tennessee (not lately though)
UF and UGA are about the same

LSU has pretty good representation in the Carolinas I've noticed so a good number don't travel that far to Columbia.

Maybe Bama fans just like to visit the Bluegrass, but no other fan base, including nearby Tennessee, brings more fans. I was awe-struck last Saturday by the amount of Crimson in Commonwealth Stadium.
Thanks for visiting us, gumps. Hope ya'll had a good time.

Who would you say travels well?
Alabama football (seriously they had tons of fans for that game in Happy Valley)
Kentucky basketball
Traveling fans are most obvious at farthest distances and when they are playing non traditional opponents. Tennessee is down but if they were up my guess is they would have been quite visible for that Oregon game @ Oregon.
end of story

Whomever is doing well travels well. Auburn traveled great in the golden years of Tubbs and of course in 2010.

Happy Valley was such a strange town nestled in a valley. Literally when you walked out of some stadium exits there was grass. Plus the parking areas were full of cow shite.
Coming to Tuscaloosa, last year's A&M showing was noticeable. However, we will see if they keep it up.
My own personal experiences Georgia, Vols, and LSU in that order. Always auburn fans for iron bowl, but is that travelling. Also, Penn state bought a ton of fans I was surprised.

yep. I understand the big schools will always travel well but it is somewhat cyclical. If the program is doing better and winning more, obviously more fans are excited and will travel to see the team. Also, the TAMU stuff will wear off at least somewhat after a bit. Many fans wanted to travel to college station as it was their first time there for a game and many TAMU fans will travel well the first couple years they're in the SEC to see the other SEC campuses. TAMU has also done pretty well their first 1.5 years so that obviously helps.

I would agree that the real test comes when the novelty wears off. A&M fans are excited about new destinations, although we did bring more to Oxford this year than last. That was mainly a function of the fact that we only requested 6000 tickets to Ole Miss and Bama last year, because we were only able to provide 6000 for visitors at Kyle the last two years. However, we'll be providing more visiting seats at Kyle starting next year, so we asked for, and were given, 7000 to Oxford this year.
At Kyle Field, so far, I'd give a slight the edge to LSU, not over Bama, believe it or not, but over Florida. Apparently, there are lots of Gators in Texas and tickets were simply easier to get to that game than for the Bama game this year. Bama sold the 6000 we gave them, and brought a lot more fans than that to town, but didn't appear to have as much success picking up tickets on the secondary market as LSU and Florida did the year before, no doubt due to the exorbitant prices scalpers were demanding. That will almost certainly change after the expansion.

have to take into account that the Tennessee game in lexington is always over Thanksgiving weekend. Hard to get a lot of people to travel for a game like that, given it's historically been a completely one-sided series unlike other rivalry games played that weekend. The Tennessee crowds in Knoxville for that game are almost always bad too.

Tennessee. There was a lot of orange in Autzen Stadium. Props for traveling so far even when they knew it would probably be ugly. Can't say anything about the other teams, they never come here (whispers: they think we're a scary team).

I was shocked too, but then again, UK is a good road trip, and one we don't make often. The Kentucky countryside is amazing, and the chance to take in the bourbon trail and a horse race is also a side benefit.
A road trip is usually a 'go' for fans for one of three reasons: 1) It's a big game/rivalry game 2) the away trip is close in proximity 3) the game is in a location with other 'fun' stuff to do. (Ie, Athens, Lexington, Nashville).
Seriously, Starkville is almost a home game for us. I've sat in traffic in Atlanta longer than it took me to get from Tuscaloosa to State's campus.
