Looks like Nashville is the best for private planes or scheduled air service. The worse maybe is Oxford or Starkville? Can you even rent a car after flying there?

I'd rank them according to scheduled air service available and car rental availability....

Nashville, TN
Baton Rouge, LA
Knoxville, TN
Lexington, KY
Gainesville, FL
Fayetteville, AR
Columbia, SC

Some of these have very limited air service, if any at all....

Columbia, MO
Athens, GA
College Station, TX
Tuscaloosa, AL

These don't even have a control tower. Fly into these podunk airports at your own risk....

Auburn, AL
Oxford, MS
Starkville, MS

All of those cities are close enough to major airports that you shouldn't care. Fly into STL, KC, ATL, IAH or B-ham and rent a car.

Auburn and Oxford -- use ATL or Memphis.
Starkville? If you can't drive there, don't bother. Not worth flying to.

I've flown into AU for a game. Very convenient and they will shuttle you to the stadium.

Yes, no air service at all.

Is two miles from the stadium your definition of bad air service?

ETA: I guess there's no rental car service. Won't Enterprise bring the car to you, though? And I thought you were talking about flying your own plane. Sorry you're poor.

Even then, I've usually flown into TPA or MCO (JAX is closer to Gainesville, but more expensive, for me at least).

I've flown in and out of BTR many, many times over the years and it's not bad at all.

But I would recommend to most out of towners to fly in and out of MSY simply because NOLA has a shitton more stuff to do tourist wise and you've got a lot more options pricewise and schedulewise.

But I tried to fly in/out of BTR whenever I could if the price was right and I didn't feel like inconveniencing my folks to drive down to Kenner and back.

Is this suppose to be some major knock on Auburn. Its fricking 90 miles to the second largest airport in the US.

Athens is close enough to the world's busiest airport that it really doesn't matter.

Per this, they have a temporary one for SEC football games:

Ok, Oxford has a 'control tower' 4 or 5 times a year. It's still a podunk airport with very very limited service.

If you're going to Oxford just fly into Memphis or Jackson

Do NOT fly to Jackson.
Memphis. No debate.
