I can get a non stop flight from Atlanta to Columbus, MS for about 340. Not really an issue for me.

With BR you usually have to make a stop. NOLA is more direct. Plus hanging out in Nola for a few before driving up isnt bad at all.

Yeah, XNA really isn't bad. Its a lot shorter drive to campus than most other "larger" airports are. Its like 25 minutes away tops. Its out in the country, but its only about 15 years old.
