The word is "phone"
Birmingham area stretches to an almost 2-syllable drawl, with a little "ooh" sound in there, if you think Forrest Gump or Dabo. "I'm awwn the phooooane."
Folks from the sticks say that particular word quicker, there's a "aw" sound. It might rhyme with dawn, but then all the pop is on the first sound, I'm not sure the n needs to even be pronounced. "I'm awn da FAW"
Mobile is the most distinct, it doesn't even seem southern. There's like a little French 'ieu' in there. I don't know what it rhymes with or how to describe it. If you have a southern accent just say phone in a faggy french way and that's how they say it. "I'm on the pheune."

Best, gotta go with Mississippi or Louisiana. Different breed of damsels around here. Like taming a lion but God are they good to look at and talk to.
Worst, hmm. I'd say Missouri. My ex's family was from Missouri and it was so strange hearing them talk. Extremely good hearted, well mannered, perfect family type of people though. I felt like a wolf in a house full of golden retrievers.

Auburn - no southern accent. They all talk like southern california valley girls these days.

You are right. Girls don't have Southern accents anymore for the most part.

South Carolina and Georgia win this easily. I've been to a lot of SEC games and the girls at these two schools stand out.

Southern accents are a thing of the past in more urban areas. TV, MTV and Hollywood have done them in. In rural areas of the South you can hear them but not as pronounced as say a generation ago. We are more homogenized than ever before, yet we as a country are more divided than ever in modern times.

I like all southern accents, but if I had to choose, my favorite would be from the ladies from around Jackson, Brandon, and Madison. It’s borderline seductive.
Least favorite is a toss up between Arkansas and east Tennessee.
