I would say State 40%
Ole Miss 30%
USM 15%
Bama 5%
LSU/Auburn 2.5% each
Everybody else 5%
I live in Meridian and we are a melting pot being right on the State line. Bama has a decent following along the E side of the State . LSU has decent following on the Coast and the SW area of MS.
But Ole Miss is the Blue bloods of the State with Drs, lawyers and other rich folks.
State was always the people’s university i. e. Engineering, agriculture, forestry, architecture etc. Over the years I think we have cut the wealth gap with Ole Miss in an overall view.
They still generate more $$ than we do but the difference is not very significant any more.
By sheer numbers we have more fans in the present day. However, Through 1972, Ole Miss had way more fans than State. But when Bob Tyler became HC at State in 1973 and Johnny Vaught retired at Ole Miss, the balance of power slowly started tilting to State and in the last 45 years the pendulum has slowly swung to State and continues to this day and will continue into the future.

Yes, and honestly it has more to do with the type of person than the sports in general. Though I don’t personally fit the bill due to my profession, State is more ag-focused, “good ole boys”. Ole Miss are your $70K millionaire types.

You’re clearly filling in the blank about ole miss fans I had. I’m sure not all are as douchy as you are coming off as. At this point, State posters seem like cool people.

Universities and colleges collected $1.8 million from the state last year for their specialty plates. Mississippi State topped the list (20,019 plates), followed by University of Mississippi (17,148). Out-of-state schools University of Alabama (3,712) and Louisiana State University (2,343) also benefited.

Yeah because according to this guy, spending your money on a license plate that goes toward the university you claim to be a fan of is stupid.
I sure want to know what all these OM people invest their money in? By their money I mean their daddy’s and granddaddy’s money.

I can promise you you'd rather have a beer with state fans than Ole Miss fans. I know plenty of both.

State fans spend their money on garbage like State license plates and decals. Same for LSU fans. Ole Miss fans generally invest their money and don't spend it on stupid shite.
And this is your typical Ole Miss fan. Their shite don't stink, they are better than everyone else yada yada yada.
I can tell you straight up that most Ole Miss fans live off of daddy's money.

I see what you’re getting at, and I think your sentiment is a pretty good representation of what I see daily. I work with a lot of State fans. I’m friends with most of them. I have absolutely zero qualms having drinks with state fans. However, state fans don’t have the same sentiment. They get so damn flustered by Ole Miss that they just can’t help themselves. The hatred just consumes them. I can tell when the guys I work with are at their wit’s end when we’re having drinks and they’re “playing nice.” But I know deep down they really fricking hate the Ole Miss script golf polo I happen to be wearing in their presence. They literally can’t look past the logo and have conversations, about anything really, without blurting out something Ole Miss related. It’s pretty bizarre honestly. I just don’t feel the same way about them. It’s more apathy than anything.
ETA: I feel like I need to clarify that I absolutely love watching them get pissed about anything that we do. Most recently, the landshark announcement was pure gold.
