Pre season #1 not making the tournament or #1 overall not making it out of their regional?

Being ranked #1 and being bounced at home by the #4 seed in a year where everyone thought Omaha was the floor.

Both LSU and UCLA should be embarrassed.

Hmmm the number 1 overall being the first number 1 overall to lose opening day and then follow that up with getting eliminated

Looking at D1 rankings, UCLA was #1 preseason, and LSU #2.
LSU got that in part by winning last year, getting a bump (and expecting to be a strong SEC team). Somewhere about 2 weeks before the conference play started, the wheels started coming off, as LSU just couldn't finish games out. If we didn't score like 10 runs, we'd lose. Just zero pitching. That carried through conference play, we lost most series. Perfect snapshot of LSU's season were the series vs Miss State and UGA; if the games were 5 innings, LSU sweeps State and takes 2-3 from UGA. But the games are 9 innings, and we got swept twice. That's what LSU was this year.
Now, UCLA on the other hand, they went wire to wire. preseason #1, #1 every poll. First time any team has done that. 52-6 overall, 28-2 conference record (the 2 losses were to fellow former Pac teams, Oregon and Washington). Oh, and btw they beat Tennesee and Miss State along the way. Omaha was supposed to be a no-brainer. This was their year.
Until they hosted a regional, and shite themselves.

Arkansas started the season in the top 10.
Couldn't get out of a regional.
Couldn't get out of a regional.

Never winning a championship would be pretty tough

I still say this sequence of excellence.
Dog walked by TCU in a home regional
Dog walked by SEMO in a home regional
Best team ever ending the season on a flyball off the forehead
Dog walked by Kansas

I don't know, because rankings aren't for those that focus on the shite that doesn't matter.
HOWEVER..... I would think that having 3 players not be able to catch a foul ball to win a national championship tops both of the OP's choices.

We all know you wouldn't have a clue on how to judge a woman in a bed or anywhere else.
