the big, hairy mole that is their AD.
I don't understand why he was hired.

Dude let Vic Schaefer walk. State's WBB program has been .500 in conference since then.

The Lemomis hire resulted in State's first national title in anything, but whatever changes after the 2022 season didn't result in a successful 2023 season.

He hired Joe Morehead. Hiring Leach was a no brainer, but apparently he couldn't do that 2 years earlier when he hired Morehead.

Jans' conference record is the exact same as the last two years as his predecessor, although the SEC is now much tougher than it was.

I know the facility improvements were planned long before his AD tenure. I can't find anything about the Adidas deal signed during his tenure.

I don't understand what Auburn saw with him, and that isn't even mentioning the shitshow that is his family. His qualifications weren't Big 6 worthy, and I remember a lot of State fans on here wanting Cohen fired before Auburn hired him.

The job is a coach grave yard. I have never understood the saying about FAMILY. It seems when things go bad the Family turns into a Hate group.
What is FAMILY?

Auburn is such an attractive job the last high profile coach they managed to hire was John Heisman in 1895.

People here seem to think Auburn is attractive. But college football coaches sure don’t.

There are so many jobs that are more attractive than Auburn. Based on the politics, meddling and backstabbing that has occurred there over the last twenty years there are only a handful of jobs in the SEC that aren’t more attractive. Here is a list of jobs that would be more attractive to a head coach:

Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Oregon
Florida State
Miami
Nebraska
Wisconsin
Clemson
Iowa
Notre Dame
USC
Alabama
Arkansas
Texas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Florida
Ole Miss
LSU
Georgia
Missouri
Tennessee

Among the current vacancies, Auburn is much closer to Virginia Tech, Stanford, and Oklahoma State than they are Florida or Penn State.

Auburn is just marginally better than those jobs due to recent history.

Auburn over UCLA is laughable. LA has a lot of shitty parts that you want no part of, e.g. around USC's campus, but Pasadena isn't one of them. You'd be insane to choose bumfrick Alabama over UCLA

Not to mention the expectations at UCLA aren't very high, just don't suck and put a moderately respectable product on the field

Why are either of those behind PSU
like it or not, Penn State is a blue blood program in a conference that still has SEC prestige and the path to a NC is easier

You are right, all lazy coaches that intend to have mediocre results and play against lower level competition should apply at UCLA instead of Auburn

Hugh Freeze was a much "higher profile" hire than Alabama's current coach.

Auburn is a short drive from Atlanta….Florida not far away. Middle
Of Division one talent hotbed. Large
Fanbase that is passionate and a
Place that wants to be really good with a tradition of winning. Why is it not at least tied with Florida and way ahead of all except PSU and Florida?

And then have boosters and athletic officials try to assasinate not just your professional life but also your personal life once they turn on you.

The Auburn go to play is to seed stories about cheating and marital improprieties to the press when they want to get rid of a coach. It is one thing to attack a coach over wins and losses or recruiting. But Auburn is ruthless, they try to destroy the whole family. They did it to Harsin. They did it to Cadillac. They may do it to Freeze once the powerbrokers get done arguing over his future.

What coach wants to volunteer for that?

The answer has been coaches from G5 schools, DII schools, and coaches with tons of baggage.

For most Auburn headcoaches, Auburn turns out to be their final P4 head coaching gig whether they like it or not. Auburn seems to destroy most head coaches. There is a reason there is no Auburn head coaching tree. They kill the tree.

Chip Kelly was paid an equivalent salary to Freeze, would you rather live in Auburn Alabama constantly under pressure from an obsessed fanbase with unrealistic expectations or in North LA where no one really gives a shite and you just have to be competent to keep your job

Hugh Freeze was high profile because of the prostitute scandal, Ole Miss’ probation, his show cause, and the most embarrassing NFL draft moment in history.

Kalen Deboer was high profile because he played for the national championship the season before Alabama hired him.

Don’t confuse infamous with famous.

The way they tried to slander Harsin hasn't helped. He stunk but they did some dirty stuff to try and get out of the buyout. That's why they have to hire high school coaches and retreads.
