Why do you think Auburn is so attractive to coaches? Is it being sandwiched between Alabama and Georgia; playing second fiddle to both? Is it the backstabbing backroom deals, ones meant to cripple the coach professionally and personally? Is it the boosters who have every intention of running the program? Is it the string of horrible athletic directors? Is it the last 5 years of ineptitude as a program? Is it the fact they have failed to even post a winning record 20 out of the last 50 seasons?
If it is such an attractive job, explain why they have been unable to lure a big name coach to Auburn for the last 100 years.

Why are either of those behind PSU? They haven't done shite in decades. Even with their historical coach they only won two and that was within a 5 season span.
They went to the semi’s last year.

Yes - why would anyone (besides Kelly) want to go to PSU?

I'm not saying im beating off to the job, but they've managed to have a pretty good amount of success sandwiched in there....turned out lots of good players as well.

Auburn is such an attractive job here are their hires since Shug Jordan.
1976: Auburn OC with no college head coaching experience
1981: Wyoming head coach
1993: Samford head coach
1999: Ole Miss head coach with a 25-20 record
2009: Iowa State head coach with a 5-19 record
2013: Arkansas State head coach with one year of college head coaching experience
2021: Boise State
2023: Liberty
Top coaches have just flocked to Auburn the past 50 years.
But it will be different this time…

Tell me why Auburn is more attractive than Arkansas, UCLA, and Virginia Tech
Arkansas: Their AD came out and said that Pittman wasn't given the support needed to succeed at Arkansas. He's also been outspoken about how far behind they are in NIL.
UCLA: Are you joking? Not only does the coach have zero fan support, he's going to be playing games regularly several timezones away, and they have to pay California taxes.
Virginia Tech: Could be a sleeping giant but they just aren't on the same level as SEC schools.
I would rank them:
1. Auburn
2. Arkansas
3. VA Tech
18. UCLA

Why would you think Auburn is more attractive to a coach than Virginia Tech or Arkansas? From a coaches perspective, Auburn has shown itself to be a place coaching careers go to die.

This OP is spitting lots of truth. I think it’s more attractive than most schools because they are willing to pay pretty great, chance to compete with the greats(could be a negative to some), and they LOVE their football. Great fans, passion, and atmosphere.
But as soon as other schools catch up in money, the rest of that will mean very little to most coaches. But for whatever reason, great coaches don’t go to Auburn. So the OP is not making stuff up.
Then you have to ask, how many GREAT coaches has there even been. I think often times it’s not just about what a school can do for you but what you can do for a school. It takes a perfect storm for great things to happen. Look at Kirby and UGA.
Kirby sit under the goat for a long time, UGA had been on the cusp for a while, then the chance came for Kirb to move in and give his alumni his all. Perfect storm, multiple natties.

Why would Auburn fire freeze? He’s in year 3 and Auburn already has 9 more championships than before he arrived.

Arkansas and UCLA SHOULD be as attractive as Auburn. But probably aren't right now.
VT never was, and due to it's location probably never could be.
Arkansas, Auburn and UCLA should be about even... Just ahead of Oklahoma State who would be just a little ahead of VT.

I would have them ranked behind
Florida State
Penn State
Florida
Arkansas
UCLA
Oklahoma State
Virginia Tech
any logical person would agree. Obviously they are going to pay more than some of those schools but if you look at the overall situation.

More threads on a lower tier school? Just accept mediocrity and move on.

I agree. They pay you millions to come and fail and then send you away with millions. Yeah, your career is shot, but you don't need a career anymore. Where do I sign?

PSU being #1 is a joke.
No school with their top rivals as Pitt and Temple should be #1 on that list.
Their AD just fired Big Game James with all of his success and is about to find out hw attractive that job is.
Their fans are already saying they are screwed.

And maybe that is one of the problems. Perhaps they are hiring guys who are just in it for the money, a golden parachute regardless of what happens. They are in it for the paycheck and not because they have a innate drive to be the best.

I can tell you right now that this is not Freeze. He looks so much like shite because he cares and yet has been so unsuccessful. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that there is something deeper inside the program that is the problem at Auburn. That being said, Arkansas and VA Tech are just too far behind to be considered better than even Auburn.
