For drinks … just head over to the Northgate bar district.
CSTAT has many good bars and restaurants throughout town … but for a quick visit on a game weekend, you’ll have the most convenient options (30+ bars & restaurants) in the clustered assembly of offerings that is Northgate.
You’ll likely hear The Dixie Chicken recommended by most. There’s a reason for its popularity. It’s a must in my book, and no trip to College Station is complete without an icy pitcher and plate of Tijuana Fries from The Chicken.
Some other good Northgate options—all within walking distance —include OBannon’s Taphouse, Corner Bar, Rough Draught, Dry Bean Saloon (a shot bar), and Rebel Draft House. Just follow the crowd; you’ll find something to your liking.
Some people have suggested Johnny Manziel’s Money Bar, and while I’ve heard ok things about it, I haven’t personally tried it. I’d solicit more feedback before wandering over there
If you’re looking for higher end whiskey bars and restaurants away from Northgate and campus, try Porters, The Republic, Ronin, Primrose Path, 1791 Whiskey Bar at The George, or maybe Christopher’s outside of town.
But ultimately I echo the suggestion of wandering around the tailgate scene in Aggie Park on campus. The friendliest people, best food, and coldest beer will be overflowing here. And every Ag will be honored to welcome you.
Enjoy yourself!

NG is worth a visit, especially Dixie Chicken, but you probably don't want to party like you were 21 again.
You've got a ton of great recs already.
On gameday, you'll want to hang out at near the stadium. There are tons of tailgates everywhere, but Aggie Park is the best setting. If you want indoors the Association of Former Students, Memorial Student Center, and Hotel all have spots to chill and watch games. When it's too damn hot, the Hotel is my preference.

I went to College Station in 2011 for the OSU game and Northgate is their fun downtown area

quote:I must agree that Aggies are very hospitable and have killer tailgates. They spare no expense. They have some of the wealthiest folks (old oil money) in all of football, who are just good people. I had season tickets before they moved to the SEC because they were very affordable. I could lay out on the lawn behind the end zone where my young kids could play. Those were the days before expansion. Easy drive from Houston.
Lots of places…but the best bet is head to the campus and enjoy the friendly Aggie hospitality and tailgating…you’ll be invited to share plenty of food and drink, make new friends. Welcome.

Well, they do if their team is playing A&M, and they’re a fan who enjoys road trips to away games and new places. It’s part of the fun of college football.
Put your foaming vitriol on the shelf for 2 minutes.

I mean, that’s a lie.
But you do you.

OP isn’t asking for recommendations on places to vacation for two weeks or for places to retire (tho CS is my dream); he’s in town for a few hours to watch his team play football and is looking for some ideas of places to quench his thirst.
Don’t take stuff so seriously; life is more fun that way.

Your public display of ignorance and stupidity noted. Lol…you’re such an embarrassment to yourself and too dumb to realize it.
