That 2nd half in the Georgia game was something to watch. It was pretty much everything beautiful about football. Fierce competition, all kinds of lead changes, hardnosed smash mouth football......definitely one of if not the greatest SEC game of all time.

IMO Saban is dwarfed by several other coaches in the SEC...

Why does saban not get credit for defensive adjustments in game? His struggled with talented hurry up teams is a result of handicap his defensive gift to correctly audible.

I do think Spurrier is the better gameday coach

Totally disagree. Has one game plan and cannot, or will not, adjust. Incapable.

Actually I think that sumlin would destroy Saban if they faced off with equal talent.

Think about it, Saban continually has the most talented team in the country, and he continually loses games to teams with lesser talent. He's still a great coach, but I'd take several others as a game day coach
He has "routinely" been able to beat his opponent i.e. 72-9 record in the last 6 yrs. Not too shabby is it?

In your wildest dreams as an Ole Miss fan, you can't fathom what it feels like to support a program that continually wins at that level.

Spurrier, Gus, Sumlin, Mullens are all in a category above Saban.

So what's your explanation for including Mullen on that list? I would love to hear this.

I would honestly say that with Saban at MSU the last 7 years they win the Egg Bowl every year and would at the very least have made it to Atlanta once.

Mullen has proven jack-squat as a recruiter and as a gameday coach.

Saban is probably in a middle tier with your average gameday coaches IMO.

Spurrier, Gus, les , sumlin

Spurrier lost to 2011 Auburn and 2013 Tennessee. All coaches suffer embarrassing losses to teams that shouldn't be able to compete with them.

2010 and 2013 Auburn were great at 4th quarter comebacks, and that's the result of coaching; however, we only have 2 great years for Malzahn in the SEC. I've read that Chizik put a muzzle on Malzahn in 2011. What about 2009?

Les Miles' teams play down to Arkansas and Ole Miss; it's a joke that you put him on this list. Alabama has only lost one game to a team that finished the season unranked, and that team happened to be the SEC East champion. Other than that, Alabama has lost to some school's GOATs and consolation bowls.

Even if Sumlin were a great game day coach, he hasn't assembled a great coaching staff, so his recruiting ability and game-day coaching abilities are irrelevant. Also, I'd like to point out that he didn't find an answer for LSU's defense the past 2 seasons despite the dropoff in defensive talent/experience that LSU had last season.

What about 2009?

You mean when Auburn finished 16th & 17th in the country in total and scoring offense? That 2009?

He's 8-1 in championship games, with the one loss being to eventual #1 Florida in a classic.

People see flashy offense and think that means somebody is a better coach. People see lots of points and think that means somebody is a better coach.

Saban coaches the same way he asks his players to play. Don't give the game away, and be strong in fundamentals. Its not flashy, it just wins.

3-6 sounds fair.

If I had to give him a letter grade as a "gametime" coach it'd be a B+.

Of course, he gets an A+ in every other metric imaginable.

Spurrier is your best gametime coach in the SEC.

I think the thing with Saban is that he 1) recruits so well and perhaps more importantly 2) has his teams so superbly prepared to play BEFOREHAND that he often doesn't have to do a whole lot of intricate game-day coaching.

Yeah, that DEFINITELY went out the window with 62-24.
