You mean like the group jerking going on with the Auburn fans in this thread?
I'm mostly just ribbing you. And I wanted to use the phrase "vigorousness of their circle jerks". I think most Auburn fans are pretty realistic...with exception to a couple. A thread like this is kind of sobering. I'd take 2 units for sure, OL and Special Teams...and OL is not by much. That said, it doesn't take coaching, strategy and gameday tactics into account...I believe AU is positioned well to give Bama a run this year...in spite of the fact that Bama has a higher # of better units on paper...by pretty much any measure.

Then don't go 8-5 again if auburn has all of this other worldly talent.

Good plan. I'll personally get right on that

Opinion of a random AU fan message board poster:
AU QB/RBs/TE/WR vs Bama LB/DB/S
Slight advantage to AU, simply because the college football game is set up to favor offenses at the moment.
AU OL vs Bama DL
Push. Strength vs Strength here.
AU PK vs Bama return/block team
Advantage Legatron
AU Punt team vs Bama punt return team
Advantage Bama
AU OC vs Bama DC
Advantage Bama, but it will be interesting to see how CL handles playcalling and if Gus leaves him to it.
Bama QB/RB/TE/WR vs AU LB/DB/S
Slight advantage to Bama... for the same reason
Bama OL vs AU DL
Push - two very talented units
Bama PK vs AU return/block team
Advantage AU
Bama punt team vs AU return team
Advantage Bama
Bama OC vs AU DC
Push
Head Coach (gameday)
Advantage Bama
Home field advantage: Auburn
ETA: Overall depth: Advantage Bama

Hurts is straight up going to be better than Stidham IMO.
I disagree but at least I respect your stance now

From top to bottom on this Auburn team, this is probably the most competitive they've position by position w/ Bama in the past decade. Either this team or 2013
Bama has the better overall team for sure, but I don't believe the difference is nearly what it has been 2014-16.
I don't believe Jalen Hurts will do well sans Lane Kiffin. Kiff may be a dbag, but he is a college QB's best friend. If Hurts proves me wrong though, Auburn has an uphill battle for sure

I might slightly dissent on a few but that is a pretty level headed and accurate assessment.
Auburn is the #2 team in the SEC right now IMHO, and we have to go there. They have the 2nd most across the board talent in the conference in 2017, and really don't have a glaring weak spot with the addition of Stidham.
Game at Jordan Hare will be a war, as always.

I agree. Like I said above, this is the most evenly dispersed talent Auburn has had in a while. Solid to very good at almost every position group.
Should be a really good team.

This was the weakest attempt at a burn.
Not an attempt at a burn. It's a statement of fact.
If you are wanting to compare position against position then AU has a clear advantage at PK only. Several pushes, several too soon to tell (QB), and several positions where Bama has a clear advantage.
It's pointless to evaluate that way though b/c you evaluate against what you'll be playing against. I don't care if Stidham is better overall than Hurts. I care if the Bama secondary and pass rush is better than the AU o-line and WRs.

No you're not. It's going to cause you great pain to watch Auburn carve through the competition this year. Bricks will be thrown, uncle Harvey will be called upon once again, wives/sisters will be shot, etc.

Alabama has recruited top class in the country for about 8 years or so.
I do not think any CFB team has a talent edge on the Alabama roster.
I think AU has some great players like Carlson at kicker and Davidson at DE. There is enough talent on AU roster to compete with anybody IF AU wins the turnover battle and kicking game.

Anthony Averett, Scarbrough, Harris, Bozeman and Daron Payne - not good enough to start on an all-Alabama/Auburn team.
Averett, Bozeman and Payne would start for sure. Any fellow Aubie who says otherwise is straight trolling. Not a huge dropoff to the AU players, but they are clearly better
Kam Pettway is definitely better than Bo. He did much more with less last year while injured, behind a less talented OL. That isn't a knock on Scarbrough, kid is a good RB, just gets edged out.
Damien Harris vs Kerryon Johnson aren't meaningfully different to me. As a bell cow, I'd choose Harris. As a change of pace/3rd Down RB behind Pettway/Bo, Kerryon Johnson is the better back. He probably has the best hands on the team, our OC finally isn't Gus so maybe we will take advantage

Nah, I have no problems with Auburn winning games. Obviously it provides entertainment to watch them lose, but other than that it doesn't bother me at all (assuming Alabama is playing well).
Big Iron Bowls are things that I can't root for throughout the season (because that requires wanting Auburn to win games), but they are lots of fun when the time actually comes.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far, but it's understandable to take Kam > Bo. However, Kam has still yet to have big games against any good defenses. I'm not saying that he won't, but he hasn't done it yet. He ran roughshod over some bad defenses last season and was hurt and/or ineffective against the good ones. Bo hasn't had a ton, but he had 4 pretty good games down the stretch against 4 pretty good run defenses.
Either way, both teams are stacked at RB. It's splitting hairs between arguably 2 of the 3 best overall backfields in the country (along with UGA).

I think this is how more Bama fans feel than people think. All fans fall into one of three categories as it relates to their rival.
1) want them to lose every game
2) want them to have a good season that your team ruins
3) not bothered either way as long as your team plays well and wins
The assumption is that all AU/Bama fans fall into category 1, and there are a lot of those (maybe even more than 50%), but a fair amount fall into category 3, too, IMO.

Would be difficult for them to get meaningful playing time. Hell, our second string defensive unit would start for 93.789% of the other SEC teams.

Maybe currently. On average, definitely not. Going on one of the greatest runs in football history kind of numbs your feelings towards rivals. Let's not kid ourselves that the majority of the time, both Auburn and Bama fans fall into Category 1.

When/If both teams are good, I think most fans turn on the other teams game and hope they lose. But once that game is over, they don't really think much of them other than when it comes up.
If your team is bad and the other one is good? Well, that changes things.
