When will Mullens recruiting catch up to him?

He’s replacing the typical loaded classes for Florida to ones filled with three star talent. I’m thinking next year we start to see an 8 win season

He isn't recruiting at a Kirby level--true. But McElwain certainly didn't manage the roster well. Look no further than the O line.

Well he took us to number 1 with a bunch of 3 star players so I think UF will be just fine.

What...you are beyond stupid.
His last class was majority four star and included 4 five stars if you count the transfers.
He is replacing three stars with four stars you dumb twat.

He is recruiting pretty damn well, actually.

His strength is on game day, so he is able to compensate for his recruiting malaise. And it's likely that when he has that breakthrough season his recruiting will improve. Also, UF has a lot to sell. It's a VERY strong brand.

As the state fan said, he took to them to no. 1 with 3 stars and he is recruiting a lot better at UF. He will have them as a perennial top ten team especially if he lands better qb's.

Mullen's classes are much better and more balanced than McElwain's ever where. He's reeling in quite a bit of 4-star talent and not taking as many reaches as the previous staff did.
His biggest problem is that he's not been able to sell Florida to the top five-star recruits (at least not out of high school). Given the Florida brand and the local talent, it's incredibly disappointing to see them all go the other programs we're chasing like Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, etc.
Admittedly, I don't think Mullen is a great recruiter and there's some deadweight on his staff recruiting-wise, but I think a lot of it also has to do with us allowing the facilities to fall behind under Foley. These other programs are selling a lot of flash that attract these younger kids. Our standalone facility is still like 2 years away. Other programs are showing off their lounges, movie theaters, daycare centers, waterfalls, and shite. Mullen is trying to sell recruits with a slideshow.

Few are as good at coaching guys up than Mullen. He was winning 8 pretty consistently at State in a tougher division with a far less talented roster, he can win a lot at Florida with his current recruiting level.

Defensive recruiting has been great (or close to it the past 2 years).
Is that Mullen? Or Grantham and staff?
If you look at the offense in terms of recruiting high schoolers... it has been close to pathetic.
But give Mullen credit for the offensive grad transfers.
I haven't come to a judgment about the offense as a whole (freshmen recruits shouldn't contribute right away. Transfer recruits should). With the low quality of high schoolers, Mullen will require high quality transfers each of the next 2 years just to keep any level of quality balance. It is tough to call the offense a success without knowing if the transfer practice will yield fruit.

Probably has a lot to do with Florida's reputation for getting defensive players drafted high, particularly DL and DBs.
Offensively, the one spot I'm concerned most about is o-line. Otherwise, as long as a he has a decent QB, I think schematically Mullen will usually field a competent offense unlike the previous two staffs. Other than that, he just needs to figure out a way to stop letting these top Florida WRs leave the state. But honestly, I see why most of them are going to Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, etc.

Dan got MSU to number 1 by a fluke, didn't last long either...

Yeah. It's a weird brag. All of the teams that he beat were 5 loss teams who underperformed.
Mullen doesn't have a resume' of impressive wins.
I get the argument that Miss St lacked talent. But the teams he was beating lacked talent too. I haven't quite found the compliment in that.

Who cares? Part of being a good coach is surrounding yourself with... good people. Seems like he Acknowledges his weakness and is trying to correct it. Top ten classes with Mullen as coach is going to be one damn good program for the near future.

Fair enough. I just find it odd that the best part of the recruiting is the part that he has no involvement.

Agree to disagree.
Top 10 in the country is often top 6 in the conference (maybe 2nd or 3rd in the division).
I don't think that is a great formula to compete for division titles regularly
When UGA was averaging top 10 classes, we were making an imprint on a national level about once every 5 years (2002, 2007, 2012, 2017). I don't know that Mullen is given 5 years without a division title.

With 4 easy OOC games....besides that South Alabama game.

And the vols are #2. UFL is being out re-recruited by the vols.

Well I believe that recruiting rankings are ridiculously biased, and I don’t really believe there is much difference between number one and four in the rankings, as I don’t believe there is much difference between five and eight. If you’re getting top ten classes with a top coach like Mullen you can be a powerhouse regardless.
Well Mullen is twice the coach Richt was. And I think he will.
