Given the Florida brand and the local talent, it's incredibly disappointing to see them all go the other programs we're chasing like Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, etc

Hard to understand with both FSU and Miami circling the drain.

Sure are. Biased to a players talent and ability.

He’s replacing the typical loaded classes for Florida to ones filled with three star talent. I’m thinking next year we start to see an 8 win season

Well it doesn't matter so much when you have 3 star recruits outperforming 4 star kids in camp. You know, when they pass the eyeball test and not some paper ranking. That's been the method behind Mullen's success since 2009.

Miami has been shite for a while now, but FSU won't be like this forever. With as meh as Mullen's recruiting is, think about how much more challenging it's going to be when the Seminoles get their shite together.

Mullen can't big game coach very well, but he got MSU to #1 because of Dak Prescott, which was no fluke.

Well I believe that recruiting rankings are ridiculously biased, and I don’t really believe there is much difference between number one and four in the rankings, as I don’t believe there is much difference between five and eight. If you’re getting top ten classes with a top coach like Mullen you can be a powerhouse regardless.

Agree to disagree unless you think a national player once every 5 years is a powerhouse.

Well Mullen is twice the coach Richt was.

Unfortunately for Mullen, he hasn't proven that (yet).
Unfortunately for Mullen, he has to be better than Kirby. He has to be better than Pruitt.
I'm fine waiting and seeing how this plays out for Florida.

I totally get that it only matters where you finish....but five weeks at the top spot is a little more than "didn't last long". Especially for a program like ours.

Not following recruiting that close are you?

Gators 2021 class is ranked #5 right now.

2020 Class was composite top 10

He seems to be following it well 2021 rankings are meaningless this early. But there are 4 teams above UF with less recruits. And UF has 0 five stars.

Your top 10 class in 2020 was also only 6th in the SEC.

Mediocre at best. But boy what a game day coach he is!

IDK.They don't have the revenue or the facilities to compete with the big boys

Fan base is no where near what it use to be.

Admittedly, I don't think Mullen is a great recruiter and there's some deadweight on his staff recruiting-wise, but I think a lot of it also has to do with us allowing the facilities to fall behind under Foley.

Agreed, but that said, after the now $90 million facility is completed, the recruiting expectations are going to be even greater. People are definitely expecting a return on that investment.

After you use that stuff for another 3 average years, I doubt they will let you return any of it. I can see where they would want to though.

I don't think it will really "catch up" to him in a sense that he will have a terrible season

the dude made his name in the West with 3 stars. Now he is in the east and getting better recruits.

IDK if he will ever go all the way without recruiting elite players, but he isn't going to fall apart.

He hired Brewster this offseason who is considered an elite recruiter. I think he has seen the flaws. His last three hires in fact have been very good recruiters. His initial staff it seems recruiting was to low of a priority in their abilities. We have to hit on more elite players to be a yearly contender for sure. But right now we have enough talent and good enough coaching to stay in the top 10-15 yearly and have really strong seasons every 3-4 years when the right mix of experience and talent hit. The most important part will be cashing in on those years(this year is that year I believe, with this schedule it kind of needs to be).

We won't go to 8 wins, at least not multiple years. He has far more talent now than when he started here by every single recruit ranking service you can find. Mac was truly awful at recruiting. Just amazing how incompetent he was at every level.

Mullens will be a perpetual 8-5. He has hit his ceiling.

I think that's actually an enhancement to his especially weak recruiting chops. Megan sucking the players is the reason goober is actually getting the 3 star kids.

Is this reputation compared to other offensive coaches at Florida?
Is it built off of who he brought in for 2020?

This is the first I'm hearing of elite recruiting and Florida's offensive staff.

Well he took us to number 1 with a bunch of 3 star players so I think UF will be just fine.

He also had the worst record vs ranked opponents while ranked in the history of the ncaa. He’s 2-22 against teams that finish with more than 9 wins.

I disagree. He actually inherited a very talented team at State and then Croom left him with a very good signing class in 2009.

From that point he slowly recruited better and I think he was underrated as a recruiter.

Our talent at State was pretty dang good when he left and the recruiting class in 2018 was solid as well.

He is going to just fine at Florida.

I disagree his strength is game day.

I think his strength is in his preparation. Game days and calling plays can get fairly predictable but they work because his guys are prepared to play.

His guys will be in shape, the rosters will be well managed and the guys on the field will know what to do and when to do it. That's his strength to me.

Game days? I have always thought he was just OK in that area, above average maybe not among the top guys. His player prep was always outstanding to me. They coached em up for sure.
